In 1942, prompted by the difficulties in bringing products across the North Atlantic, the “North Bar Tool Company” became the first company in Britain to commercially manufacture torque wrenches.

Since then, “Norbar” (as the company was re-named) has continued to invest in the very latest design, manufacturing and quality control technology to achieve the highest level of innovation and precision in the field of torque control equipment.

Vehicle Hand Torque Wrenches

Whatever the torque required, from 1 N.m to 100,000 N.m, Norbar have a tool to give precise torque control. Hand torque wrenches cover the range up to 1,500 N.m and beyond this torque multipliers, both hand operated and powered, take over.

Military Torque Measurement Equipment

Our range of Military Torque Measurement Equipment is even wider – 0.04 N.m to 136,000 N.m. Measurement equipment can be provided for various environments from workshop to fully equipped torque calibration laboratories. Norbar have UKAS accredited torque calibration facilities in the United Kingdom and laboratories accredited and traceable to local national standards in the United States and Australia. 1942 began a long association between Norbar and military customers.

The first torque wrenches were primarily intended for the Rolls-Royce “Merlin” engine which was one of the first designs to specify torque tightening of cylinder head bolts. Norbar’s wrenches remain to this day a popular choice for the Armed Forces themselves and their equipment suppliers. A particular success story has been the supply of torque measuring equipment to the Armed Forces.

Electronic Torque Measurement Equipment & Analysers

For electronic torque measuring equipment, Britain’s Royal Air Force got the ball rolling by equipping numerous workshops with Norbar’s torque analysers.
