Army, MoD Next in Prince’s Military Familiarisation

Prince William will spend some time with the Army Air CorpsThe next phase of his career serving with the British Army will see Prince William on attachment to special forces, according to information released by Clarence House on July 31st.

William, it said, will go back to the Army and, additionally, spend some time at the MoD.

A spokesman stated that these elements of the Royal Prince’s military service will not involve participation in operations

Royal Navy, Royal Air Force Familiarisation

Earlier this month, Prince William finished a deployment onboard HMS Iron Duke as part of Royal Navy familiarisation training – itself a part of a wider, year-long exercise aimed at making him familiar with the three principal British armed forces strands.

Prior to that, he undertook a condensed Royal Air Force course, culminating in the presentation of his RAF Wings in April. During this time, William gained flying experience on the Tutor and Tucano trainers and the Squirrel and Chinook helicopters.

According to Clarence House, the Prince’s time with the MoD would give him insight into how the RAF, Royal Navy and Army Air Corps are guided.

Army Air Corps Helicopters

Exactly where his special forces visits will take place is not known but, after this, he will temporarily join the ranks of the Army Air Corps.

During this period he will be taught about helicopter-related tactics, as well as their capabilities and – it is anticipated – will have the opportunity to fly a number of types.

William’s period aboard HMS Iron Duke lasted for over a month. During it, he took part in a pair of drug raids.

Some degree of criticism emanated during the Prince’s time in the RAF, when it came out that he had used a Chinook helicopter as a means of transporting himself, as well as Prince Harry, to the Isle of Wight for a stag party.
