MoD: Prince Harry's Afghan Deployment to End

Prince HarryThe Ministry of Defence confirmed early on the 29th February that Prince Harry is to be pulled out of Afghanistan.

The move follows the news that broke yesterday that the prince has been serving in Helmand Province since mid-December.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup, the Chief of the Defence Staff, had been contemplating whether the prince should remain on deployment, after talking the subject over with General Sir Richard Dannatt - the Chief of the General Staff.

Harry will be transported back to this country amid fears for his safety.

Army Chiefs Mindful of Harry News Leaking: Marriott

Army spokesman Brigadier Patrick Marriott had stated earlier how army chiefs had been mindful of the possibility that information on the prince's location would surface in the media.

"I think it's important that, throughout this whole process, risks have been managed incredibly well," Marriott said.

"There's been an enormous amount of planning that's gone on into this, and the fact that this was going to break was always thought a possible outcome and so plans are there - and I think people can be reassured about that."

According to Sir Jock, Harry's conduct in Afghanistan had been professional.

"In serving his country with distinction in dangerous circumstances, he has shown the courage and determination that are the hallmarks of everyone in our armed forces, many of whom are operating under very challenging circumstances," he said.
