Saab Grintek Defence (Pty) Ltd acquired Aerospace Monitoring and Systems (Pty) Ltd (AMS) in January 2006.
AMS is now part of Saab Avitronics, a Saab business unit focusing on avionics and electronic warfare systems which already has operations in both Sweden and South Africa.
Saab Avitronics Recording and Monitoring designs and manufactures state-of-the-art Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS) (including Data Acquisition Units, Cockpit Voice/Flight Data Recorders and Maintenance Ground Station software) for application in helicopters, as well as transport-, trainer- and fighter aircraft.
Apart from satisfying regulatory requirements (CAA and FAA), the Saab Avitronics HUMS also offers the aircraft owner/operator the benefit of improved aircraft safety and availability, while reducing the cost of ownership.
The heart of any HUMS is a Data Acquisition Unit (DAU), capable of handling hundreds of input signals, supported by powerful processing hardware and software. The HUMS not only has the capability to monitor almost every aircraft system and sub-system, including the avionics sub-systems, it can also act as an engineering data recorder.
