Ruag Coel Gmbh: Electro-Optical and Laser-Based Training and Simulation Systems
Based in Wedel (near Hamburg), RUAG COEL GmbH, is one of the world's leading experts in electro-optical and laser-based technology. By integration in RUAG Holding in January 2006 the long-term partnership with RUAG Electronics, Simulation and Training, Switzerland, has been strengthened and provides their customers with more than just the addition of two reliable and powerful partners by merging proven system house and unique high-tech capabilities.
The company's main strength is in providing a unique combination of knowledge, development and production capabilities inside one single company.
Therefore RUAG COEL has constantly increased its capability to design and develop laser-based Precision Gunnery Training Systems (PGTS), Precision Gunnery Engagement Systems (PGES) and complete Combat Training Systems (CTS).
COSIM – Laser Simulator Family
The COSIM laser simulator family is based on RUAG COEL’s two-way laser simulator technology. One-way laser and radio components are added to round off the program.
The family utilizes a selection of COSIM Standard Transceivers to ensure proven and fielded technology in combination with high performance user specific adaptations.
COSIM simulators are designed with an emphasis on the avoidance of negative training effects. To reach this high goal, operation, performance, appearance and weight of the original weapon are exactly replicated. The two-way laser technology is the final key to this realistic performance.
Only this technology is able to consider lead and elevation angles. Even canting and rotation of the weapon are registered and evaluated by our simulators. All weapon ranges beginning with a few meters up to 4.5 km are covered using eye safe, class 1 lasers compliant with EN 60825.
CODARTS – Combined Arms Direct Fire and Area Weapon Training System
CODARTS (Combined Arms Direct Fire and Area Weapon Training System) has been produced to create a modern close-to-reality Combat Training Center giving optimum visual and acoustical clues to participating units.
The CODARTS Scaleable Training System (STS) is a modern, cost efficient and realistic Mobile Combat Training Center which visualizes artillery and mortar hits and integrates combat simulation in both field and urban environment.
COSCOUT – Combined Arms Simulation Environment for Combat Operations in Urbanized Terrain
The COSCOUT MOUT training module uses a number of unique technologies to overcome the restrictions of urban training ranges. GPS-independent location systems and the transfer of weapon impacts from outdoor into the buildings are examples of these technologies.
The standardized COSCOUT bus system connects all simulation hardware to an evaluation and control computer. All system data is processed with this decentralized unit. Relevant data is transferred to EXCON for storage and evaluation.
CODARTS – Pyrotechnics Training System (PTS)
Pyrotechnic ammunition is a necessity for almost all military training. The normal drawbacks of remote pyrotechnic usage are difficult setup procedures, difficult handling procedures and the amount of preparation time.
The RUAG COEL PTS concept overcomes these restrictions by using proven components from the CODARTS product range. A standard scenario (e.g. improvised explosive devices, IED) can be created in less than 20 seconds.
A typical PTS training set consists of one PocketPyro communication device and a number of Fire Marker Units (at least 1). The FMU are placed at the desired location and switched on. The PocketPyro communicates immediately with the units. Battery life, pyro load, etc. can be checked; training starts.
COPAS - Family
With the COPAS family of pyrotechnic launching devices, RUAG COEL meets the requirements for the visualization of battlefield effects in CTC’s. For the demonstration of artillery or mortar impacts and for the hit indication, the COPAS family uses standardized types of pyrotechnic ammunition.
The COPAS 24R pyrotechnic simulator is a spin-off development triggered by the training community’s increased request for multiple use battlefield effect simulators. The COPAS 1R is a improvised Explosive Device and Booby Trap Simulator which is technically based on the proven and fielded Fire Marker Unit (FMU) design.
