L-3 Link Simulation & Training traces its legacy back to Ed Link’s invention of the first pilot trainer in 1929, a milestone that revolutionized the safety of flight. Today, L-3 Link continues as a leader in providing military flight simulation and training services solutions for armed forces worldwide.
As an experienced training systems integrator we provide cost-effective, proven training systems and training services designed to enhance pilot or aircrew skills.
For fixed wing, rotary wing and unmanned aircraft platforms L-3 Link can operate training schoolhouses, provide networked flight simulators and deliver a wide range of visual display and image generation solutions to best meet specific customer requirements. Our training services expertise includes the ability to manage and provide instruction for training schoolhouses, maintain, operate and upgrade simulators and conduct advanced simulation and training research.

For over 25 years L-3 Link has provided turnkey training services, including schoolhouse training, designed to enhance aircrew skills on a wide range of military platforms.
Today L-3 Link is applying its aircrew training expertise in support of the E-3 AWACS, E-6B TACAMO, C-27J Joint Cargo Aircraft and E-8C JSTARS.
From designing and developing courseware to providing classroom and simulator instruction to managing all aspects of complex aircrew training systems, L-3 Link’s approach to schoolhouse training produces mission-ready personnel.
L-3 Link is a world leader in development of networked, fixed winged aircraft flight simulators. L-3 Link is the sole provider of F-22A, B-2 and F-117 flight simulators and has continued to upgrade these fielded trainers to maintain concurrency with aircraft modifications.
In addition, L-3 Link has over a 90 percent share of the global F/A-18 simulator market and over 60 percent share of the worldwide F-16 simulator market.
In support of F-22A, F/A-18 and F-16 simulator solutions, L-3 Link has developed a fast jet visual system solution that integrates the company’s SimuSphere® dodecahedron configured visual display with its SimuView™ personal computer image generation system.
Collectively, these two systems provide pilots with highly realistic, eye-limiting out-the-window computer generated imagery. SimuView also powers cockpit sensor video displays.
L-3 Link also is the sole provider to the U.S. Navy of P-3C Tactical Operational Readiness Trainers that support the conduct of anti-submarine warfare and anti-surface warfare sensor crew training.
L-3 Link is the prime contractor on the U.S. Army’s Aviation Combined Arms Tactical Trainer (AVCATT) program and major subcontractor on the U.S. Army’s Flight School XXI program.
To date L-3 Link has delivered 15 AVCATT suites – which consist of two 53-foot trailers that contain six reconfigurable manned modules that can be modified to simulate any of five platforms (AH-64D, AH-64A, UH-60A/L, OH-58D and CH-47D) – to support rotary wing aircraft team-training objectives.
To expand the number of participants in a training exercise, AVCATT flight simulators can be networked with other AVCATT suites or the U.S. Army’s Close Combat Tactical Trainer system.
AVCATT suites also house a Battle Master Control room that monitors and records each unit’s mission performance. Four role player stations in the Battle Master Control room enable individuals to serve as artillery, joint air support, ground, engineer or logistics force commanders. When a mission is completed, the recorded data and video is presented in the After Action Review theater.
L-3 Link is under contract to build a total of 23 AVCATT suites.
L-3 Link – prime contractor on the U.S. Air Force’s Predator Mission Aircrew Training System (PMATS) – has developed and fielded the U.S. military’s first unmanned aircraft high fidelity simulation system.
PMATS’ simulated ground control stations accurately replicate mission environments that Predator aircrews experience during actual operations.
L-3 Link’s PMATS solution can be expanded horizontally to support high fidelity simulation requirements for other unmanned aircraft platforms.
L-3 Link provides a complete range of services in the development, operation and support of turnkey military training programs and simulation equipment. This includes managing and operating aircrew training systems, designing and developing effective training media, providing on-site simulator support, performing simulator modifications and conducting simulation and training research.
L-3 Link provides contractor logistics support (CLS) and maintenance for the U.S. Navy’s fleet of 22 C-9 aircraft. In addition, L-3 Link is providing program management and overall logistics support to the U.S. Navy’s fleet of C-40A aircraft.
L-3 Link is a world leader in development of networked flight simulation systems through the use of Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) and High Level Architecture (HLA) protocols. Through the use of these protocols on L-3 Link fighter aircraft and military helicopter simulation programs, the ability for these simulators to interoperate with other virtual, live or constructive simulations to support combined or joint forces training is made possible.
