Those hoping to retrain and join the industry will have to meet new government legislations.
This means that electricians wanting to work in domestic properties now need to hold a Part P registration, and at PTT we run courses enabling students to successfully obtain this status. We are a City and Guilds approved centre, and our courses are short and intensive, allowing students to obtain their qualifications quickly and efficiently.
At PTT we run a 17-day Electrical Installation Training Starter Package, popular with students looking to retrain as an electrician who have no prior knowledge of the industry. The first two weeks are spent doing basic physics and basic electrical installation work on our Installer 1 and Installer 2 courses. In the final two weeks students take both the 2382 and the 2392 City and Guilds courses. The cost of this course is £1,888 + VAT. Successfully completing the Starter Package enables the student to apply for Part P, and carry out domestic installations.
This Level 1 qualification is a basic requirement for electricians. The syllabus covers the 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations. Our 2382-10 course is 3 days and costs £415 + VAT. A computer-based multiple choice examination takes place on the final afternoon and results are available to download straight after the exam. A pass results in the award of a City and Guilds certificate.
This is a Level 2 Testing and Inspection course released by City and Guilds this year to meet the needs of electricians who wish to be able to test and inspect their own work, but do not need the full 2391 qualification. The City and Guilds 2392-10 course last for 4 days, and costs £520 + VAT. The fourth day is spent doing a 2-hour practical examination, followed by a 90 minute, 50 question multiple-choice exam. A pass results in the award of a City and Guilds certificate and allows candidates to apply for Part P Registration with confidence.
This Level 3 Testing and Inspection certificate is for those candidates who wish to test and inspect all kinds of domestic wiring, including work carried out by other electricians. Our City and Guilds 2391 course lasts 4 days and costs £520 + VAT. The course includes a 2-hour practical examination and a 150 minute written examination – which may or may not be in the course week, as the dates are nationally set by City and Guilds. A pass results in the award of a City and Guilds certificate.
We also run a one-day PAT course for electricians who wish to offer portable appliance testing to their customers. Our course costs £200 + VAT. The day concludes with a computer-based multiple-choice examination, and a pass will result in the award of a City and Guilds certificate.
This two day course teaches candidates about practical wiring and fault finding on common central heating configurations. The cost of the Boiler Control Course is £315 + VAT.
We also offer a comprehensive selection of written and practical revision / re-test days to help students who need to re-take part or all of their City and Guilds 2391 qualification. Details and dates can be found on our website.
