Kappa Opto-Electronics - Riflescope Cameras, Long Range Observation and Vehicle Reversing Cameras

Kappa is a specialist in camera development and manufacturing for military applications. Kappa is one of the leading companies with 30-years experience in extremely robust camera technology with highest signal quality. The cameras are for harsh environments under extreme conditions, according to MIL- and aircraft standards with resistance to temperature, shock, vibrations and pressure.

Kappa’s superior cameras fit to the needs of foot soldier, unmanned air vehicle (UAV), unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV) and ground unmanned vehicle (GUV), payloads, drones and helicopters. Kappa has established itself as a qualified and reliable partner of multinational projects with customized solutions and COTS/MOTS cameras. Different international projects are e.g. LaFlaSys, Puma, VAB, VBCI, Leclerc, Leopard II, MRTT and future soldier projects.

Riflescope Camera

Riflescope Camera

The riflescope camera system (CVS-RS) is a miniaturized camera mounted on weapons, adaptable to all riflescopes or optical systems. It is a gun fire control camera used by sharpshooters, marksman and rifle officers for exact analysis of aiming and firing, live video evaluation in real time and documentation for shooting training and missions. A product variation with additional accessories offers adaptation to the foot soldier accoutrement, e.g. with head-mounted display, helmet-mounted camera, weapon-mounted camera (MILStd1913, Picatinny) to enhance the effectiveness of war fighters. The weapon mounted camera turns it into observation devices able to transmit images to other manoeuvre members or commanders as decision tools for increased situational awareness.

Long Range Observation "Dynamic Range Enhancement"

Dynamic Range EnhancementDRE- a passive patented method to enhance clarity in live video images for reconnaissance and observation. DRE provides a clearer view in fog, haze, smoke or rain. Optionally the DRE function can be integrated in all Kappa cameras and optronic systems. This unique technology reveals information in live images (black and white, color) with poor contrast. Image quality, rendition and display of edges are considerably improved in real time.

Vehicle Reversing Cameras

Vehicle Reversing CameraThe Kappa cameras improve reverse driving. The main performance characteristics are 12 bit signal processing, low noise and dynamic range enhancement in real time. The camera housing provides adaptation for tanks and armoured fighting vehicles, de-icing and cleaning devices included. The camera design fits to environments under extreme conditions according to MIL- standards with resistance to temperature, shock and vibrations.

Camera Platform Mounting

In international projects Kappa creates application-oriented cameras with a flexible platform, according to MIL- and aircraft standards.Camera Platform Mounting Kappa´s tactical cameras with low lux are used in 24/7 observations. Miniaturized lightweight wireless optronics are suitable for portable cameras, weapon-mounted cameras and helmet-mounted cameras. Gyro-mounted cameras with SDI output provide remote real time imaging for helicopters. Different international projects are e.g. LaFlaSys, Puma, VAB, VBCI, Leclerc, Leopard II, MRTT and future soldier projects.

Robust Digital Cameras

The most important performance characteristics of the digital HDTV Megapixel HDTV Camerascameras are HD resolution with 1920 x 1080p, 16:9 ratio and 30 fps (full frame) in real time. The HD camera provides safety relevant information for surveillance, observation, recognition, identification and targeting. The technology can be used for gyro-mounted cameras, 24/7 long range observation cameras and tactical cameras. Kappa's recent famous reference is the air-to-air refuelling application for the global leader EADS (MRTT)

Gun Barrel Inspection System

The measuring and examination system RIB 2000 supports defence industry and military users in performing quality control and Gun Barrel Inspection Systeminspection of wear in the inside surfaces of gun barrels of different bore sizes and calibres (76 mm to 203 mm) e.g. mortar tubes and tank/artillery barrels. RIB 2000 also handles documentation and archiving of defects.
