Aigis strikes again with a new blast protection solution to a very topical issue faced by armed forces: the increasing threat from IED's (Improvised Explosive Device) against military vehicles and the subsequent loss of lives, which highlight that military vehicles are currently ill protected against the developing dangers of terrorist explosions.
Aigis TABREshield technology deals with explosions in the unique way that it absorbs up to 90% of the blast, thus reducing all elements of blast to sustainable levels including shockwave, pressure, fragments and heat. This protection proves more advanced than the standard alternatives, which primarily focus on ballistic protection, i.e. capturing the fragments only.
Aigis TABREshield technology is central to Aigis's Vehicle Blast Protection System, which is designed to protect the under belly and wheel arches of light and medium tactical vehicles.
It combines a high degree of protection with low areal weight, thus maintaining the vehicle's payload, manoeuvrability and service availability. An equivalent level of protection in steel would weigh 2.5 - 3 times more.
Successfully tested to up to Stanag level 4, Aigis's Vehicle Blast Protection System offers a superior protection against hull deformation and localised failure, spalling and heat, thus substantially improving survivability and even reducing potential limb crush injuries to a sustainable minimum.
Already in use in Afghanistan and Iraq, Aigis's Vehicle Blast Protection System can be integrated into new vehicles as well as be retrofitted.
