Uniteam - Unique Solutions for Rapid Deployment Concepts

Uniteam International

By Kjell-Ivar Myrvang, Managing Director, Uniteam International

Rapid deployment increasingly important: Based upon the experiences from the Iraq campaign as well as the operations in Afghanistan we are watching a bigger demand for mobile and flexible solutions.

This need is not going to be reduced in the next decade but most likely the need for rapid deployment of forces will increase in the next years.

The restructuring of national forces throughout the entire World based upon the new treat scenarios is also a key factor in this picture. Most nations are looking for solutions which gives them the opportunity to rapid response on crises situation. We will see that clearly in i.g Nato's change of area of operation from an almost entire European treaty organisation to an organisation with interests world wide.

Shelter Systems

The Uniteam rapid deployment solution is a tool for opening the possibility of rapid response to treats no matter where they emerge in the world.

Our solutions can be transported by any mean of transportation like air, sea, road and rail. The obvious benefits from chosing our proven solutions are several and we just like to mention a few of them:

  • Low transport volume
  • No need for fixed infrastructure in place
  • Low investment cost
  • Operational in hours or minutes after received

Uniteam International has over the last years foreseen this situation and has invested much effort in making rapid response possible for the armed forces throughout the world. As a company we have experiences from operating throughout the world and by that we know that our proposed solutions will satisfy our clients most advanced needs.

Expandable shelters
The first expandable container was developed in 1998, and has been modified and redesigned since then. Now the 7th generation of expandable containers are produced and operational.
The shelter has an in service life time exceeding 15 years. All shelters are designed to allow transportation by all means of transportation. They are also CSC Certified by classification companies and Certified by the Royal Norwegian Air Force for C-130 loading and transportation.
Uniteam International have both 2 in 1 and 3 in 1 as seen on the picture above. These are mainly used as integrated parts of headquarters for various forces.

Expandable ISO Steel shelters
The "3 in 1" and "2 in 1" Steel ISO Expandable Shelter forms an outstanding basis for fully mobile tactical Command Posts as well as numerous other applications.

Shelter SystemsThe shelters are built entirely from steel and the shelters are extremely solid and have been undergoing continuously improvements as a result of in-field experience by military customers operating in various climatic and operational environment over the past years.

The Uniteam International customers consist of the armies of Norway, Denmark, The Netherlands and Sweden, as well as NATO (NC3A) and The United Nations.

The Norwegian Army Reaction Force has recently taken delivery of a substantial number of Expandable Command Posts. These shelters are 6th generation, combining field experience and innovative design. The result is a shelter that fully meets all climatic, logistical and operational requirements of a demanding customer at a reasonable cost.

The shelter consists of 3 main elements; a "standard" 20' steel container, with two expandable elements, based on the box-in-the-box principle. This enables a workspace of 32 square meters, allowing 12-15 workstations, in addition to command central in the middle.

The shelter can be fully expanded and operational in 20 minutes by 2 men.

Rapid Deployment Shelters " Quick Shelters" - A Portable General Purpose Unit
The Rapid Deployment Shelter is the most innovative and adaptable portable accommodation unit ever developed, manufactured in Norway to high quality standards and demanding technical specifications.

Rapid Deployment Shelter SystemsThe basic idea of developing the Rapid Deployment Shelter was to have an accommodation unit with low weight, using very little transportation space. It can be erected less than in 2 minutes using simple crane or fork lift equipment, and is easy to erect/dismantle without requiring tools and without having loose parts. 14 units may be transported on one truck. 6 units equalizes a size that is a bit lower than a 8' 6'' high container. The Rapid Deployment Shelter is now in use several places around the world.

The "Rapid Deployment Shelter " is constructed from composite panels of 1mm Aluminium sheets with a polystyrene core fixed to an aluminium structure. The aluminium profiles have fixing rails in floors and ceilings. We have constructed special "equipment"-packages, which can easily be attached to these rails on a "clip on" basis without tools. These packages comprise of variable shelve systems, folded beds which easily can be converted to sofas, office shelves with desktop, etc.

All units have integrated telephone; computer network and electrical circuits, with ceiling mounted double power outlets and external waterproof connector for quick connection to either mains or generated power supplies.

Lighting, heaters and other electrical appliances are easily attached to the fixing rail and plugged into the power outlets which are placed in the roof.

ACU's can be installed and if agreed upon the RDS will be prepared with the correct opening for installation. The shelters can be delivered with electrical heated floor.

Gas Safe Shelter Products®
Uniteam have developed a patented gasket system, Gas Safety Shelter Products (GSSP®). Combined with an over-pressure system these units will be applicable for biological and chemical environments. The GSSP concept includes a complete set of containers for "Bare Base" use. All facilities needed for a complete squadron or battalion is included in this system.

Rapid Deployment Shelter SystemsGSSP is based on dual use of standard freight containers. GSSP gives you the possibility to design your own NBC-, splinter-, EMP- protected and air conditioned facilities. Transport containers are quickly turned into commando sections, head quarters, hospitals, medevac, workshops, alert shelters, airlocks, power generators, accommodation, sewage- & fresh water systems.

Containers are even used as hangars for aircrafts. The first mobile airbase ever was delivered for The Royal Norwegian Air force Immediate Reaction Force Squadron at Ørland Air Base in 1997. This base, counting more than 350 containers, featured full biological and chemical protection of mission critical facilities. The base, or parts of it, has successfully been deployed several times for exercises and operations abroad.

Foldable ISO Aluminium/sandwich 3 in 1 Shelters
The foldable solution is based on ISO 20' Aluminium Sandwich Shelter. Due to the unique design and quality which has been developed by Uniteam International through the demands from our customers, these products have become quite unique.

The expanding panels of the shelters are fitted by means of "tube in tube" extruded aluminium profiles instead of hinges, to enhance strength and avoid ingress of water. The same profiles, replacing ordinary hinges, offers extremely convenient mounting of the expandable walls, floor- and roof panels at a minimum of time. Additionally, any single panel at the expanding parts can easily be exchanged within minutes if so required.

The average mounting/demounting time of the shelter is 15-20 minutes as proven in field by military users. This module is constructed within the frame of a fully polyurethane insulated 20' Approved and Certified ISO Shelter, offering a minimum of on-site erection tasks, merely levelling and connection to services.
