Satellite Support Radio Systems

-Microwave Radio Communications

THE MRC TSSR is a complete lightweight lineof- sight microwave radio system that can be quickly set up to interconnect TRI-TAC equipment and GMF satellite terminals.

The TSSR link can be interfaced with or substituted for cable links employing modems, such as the MD-1026, or for the AN/TAC-1 fiber optic system.

The MRC TSSR radio can carry digital traffic with a 3 Vp-p conditioned diphase waveform as described in the TRI-TAC ICD or the TSSR specification, ranging from 0.072 to 4.608 Mbps. It supports an analog or digital order wire interchangeably. Alternatively, it can carry a 6.144 Mbps pseudo NRZ signal when operating with the AN/TAC-1 fiberoptic system.Satellite Support Radio System

In addition, the MRC TSSR also can be employed with the TSSR DR-MUX to interconnect up to four commercial T1 (1.544 Mbps) signals. The MRC TSSR is easy to configure for video radio applications as well.

Applications

  • Remoting high power radiators, such as the tropo radios (TRC-170) and satellite grounds terminals (AN/TSC-94 A and AN/TSC-100A) from communication/command centers;
  • Reconstructing trunks and other communication links;
  • Linking to larger TRI-TAC shelters such as the AN/TTC 39 switches and the CNCE AN/TSQ-111; and
  • Rapidly establishing communication across difficult terrain.

Features

  • Lightweight, compact, and self-contained: u 45 pounds u 8.75" high x 19" wide.
  • Entire radio system in two electronic units: RF assembly & baseband assembly.
  • RF assembly and 1' antenna can be mounted on lightweight 50' mast (supplied with the system).
  • Frequency coverage: 14.4 to 15.25 GHz.
  • Low power consumption
  • Choice of two high gain antennas: 1' and 2' diameters
  • Modern design features sophisticated, fieldproven RF circuitry
  • Designed for rapid field deployment and reliable operation

Options

  • TSSR DR-MUX 4T1
  • Mux/modem

The TSSR antenna and its RF section can be erected on any one of three supplied mounts:

  • Lightweight erectable mast system
  • Field tripod, or Pipe mount system for attaching to an existing tower.

The transceiver consists of two weatherproof assemblies that are either joined as a single unit or separated by up to 150 feet of supplied cable.The TSSR radio system includes a one-foot or two-foot diameter antenna that can be set by the operator to either horizontal or vertical polarization.

With the one-foot antenna, the mast can be erected in winds up to 30 mph.

Transceiver Design
The MRC TSSR is a transceiver with the transmitter and receiver combined. Mechanically, the TSSR is divided into two assemblies: the RF Assembly and the Baseband Assembly.

The RF Assembly contains all of the RF circuitry of the transmitter and the RF circuits of the receiver through the second IF Amplifier.

The Baseband Assembly contains the transmitter baseband circuits and the receiver baseband circuits.

Antennas
The one-foot diameter antenna features a robust, lightweight design with 31 dBi gain, providing a safe operating margin during adverse conditions. Polarization adjustment is quick and easy: just rotate the antenna feed 90°. Accurate alignment is also simple.

Azimuth adjustment of the antenna boresight through 360° is achieved by rotating the whole mast on which the RF head is mounted. Elevation adjustment is controlled by a mechanical actuator.

With their small size and weight, the antenna and RF head can be supported by a lightweight composite telescopic mast that has been developed specifically for rapid deployment. For tripod mounted operation where additional performance may be required, a two-foot diameter antenna, which shares the same mounting arrangements, can be used.

Reconfiguring from a one-foot to two-foot dish takes less than one minute. The two antennas, along with all of their associated mounting hardware and the mast accessories bag, fit inside a single transit case measuring 30 x 30 x 14 inches and weighing less than 100 pounds. This feature makes it easy to store and transport the TSSR system.
