Delivering Digitization

DRS Tactical Systems

The Path to Information Superiority Starts Here

DRS Tactical Systems provides the proven ultra-rugged computer systems that are making battlefield digitization a reality. Through such programs as the U.S. Army's Force XXI Battle Command, Brigade and Below (FCBB2) and the U.K. Defence Ministry's BOWMAN, DRS Tactical Systems is delivering thousands of rugged computers for use within tracked and wheeled vehicles and by ground-based soldiers performing a variety of tasks.

We invite you to learn more about how we are supporting the modernization of today's militaries with products that ensure information superiority and further mission success.

U.S. Army Force XXI Battle Command, Brigade and Below (FBCB2)

In 1998, DRS Tactical Systems was awarded a highly prestigious production contract to supply prime contractor Northrop Grumman with nearly 2000 RVS-330 Appliqué V4 Rugged Vehicle Systems for the U.S. Army's Force XXI Battle Command, Brigade and Below (FBCB2) contract. In two subsequent awards, DRS Tactical Systems has now delivered in excess of 9,000 of these highly versatile computers. In December 2002, DRS became the sole supplier to Northrop Grumman and the U.S. Army of these computers, and the RVS-330 has performed critical functions on the battlefields of Afghanistan and Iraq . Several U.S. Army brigades/divisions have been digitized, and experience from field use has confirmed the enhancement to Army combat effectiveness that digitization brings and the absolute need for the high-performance (functional and environmental) rugged computing that DRS Tactical Systems provides.

U.K. Defence Ministry BOWMAN Program

In 2002, DRS Tactical Systems was awarded a contract by General Dynamics (UK) Ltd., the prime contractor for the U.K. BOWMAN communications infrastructure program, to supply over 13,000 rugged computers. Deliveries commenced in late 2002 and will continue until 2008. DRS Tactical Systems is providing four variants of its Scorpion™ notebook computer, which includes both vehicle mounted and dismountable terminals. The systems share a high degree of commonality in their component parts and construction, leading to greatly simplified and cost-effective life-cycle support.

Challenger 2 Digitization-P-BOWMAN INFORMATION SYSTEM APPLICATION (BISA)

DRS has also been awarded a contract by Alvis-Vickers to deliver a real-time "Platform Digitization" Processor Unit (PDPU link) and Commander's Crew Station (CCS) for the Challenger 2, the British Army's main battle tank. The CCS will display both battle management and real-time systems information. The PDPU will host applications that effectively digitize the tanks' systems, giving the Challenger 2 a command, control, intelligence and fire coordination capability second-to-none.

DRS is proud to bring its extensive experience and know-how in delivering innovative and cost-effective products and systems to these projects. The products and experience gained from DRS Tactical Systems' involvement in these programs can be readily adapted to a wide range of other applications and for other customers needing to acquire field-proven and successfully deployed solutions.
