DRS Tactical Systems has developed a variety of handheld computers with capabilities covering the complete spectrum of user requirements from simple PDA functionality to highly secure devices suitable for use in mobile satellite communications systems.
Solutions for Every Scenario
DRS provides various computers, including the HTU and HTU-EK, and display systems in support of the Common Hardware/Software III (CHS-3) program, a ten-year indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract that provides commercial and rugged computers, network hardware equipment, power subsystems, peripheral devices and commercial software to U.S. Department of Defense customers worldwide.
Through this contract, next-generation commercial and ruggedized workstations, plus associated hardware and software are provided to U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force tactical computer users. All other federal agencies are also eligible to purchase computer products and services under the contract.
CHS-3 uses COTS-based architectures as the foundation for ruggedizing tactical computing platforms for the digitized Army. As a result, military users get access to the same power and performance levels available to their commercial counterparts.
Scorpion Handheld Terminal Unit
DRS's Handheld Terminal Unit (HTU) provides a lightweight, ultra-rugged, fully sealed computing device. The HTU is a product based solely on commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) technology, providing the most cost-efficient solution for the battlefield.
The HTU's design meets the most demanding V3 environmental requirements, to include MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461 compliance. HTU optional configurations include embedded TCIM, and embedded SAASM GPS.
The HTU is the solution to mobile computing in any demanding environment. Potential HTU applications include:
- Dismounted Operations C2.
- Forward Observer.
- Air Defense.
- Communications and Messaging.
- Maritime and Littoral Operations.
- Homeland Defense First Responder.

PXI
The PXI is a field-proven, extremely rugged, handheld personal computer designed for use in a wide range of environments ranging from the barracks to the leading edge of the battlespace.
The unit combines high standards of ruggedness, functionality, battery life and interconnectivity with optimum Man Machine Interface (MMI). The PXI is ideally configured for use as the MMI for mobile and satellite communications systems.
Scorpion™ RPDA
The Scorpion™ RPDA is a lightweight, handheld computer used by the dismounted soldier for situational awareness, information updates and targeting information. The system's all-in-one design with wireless capability eliminates bulky and excessive peripheral devices and decreases the load on the soldier, while enhancing information flow to the user.
The smallest product in our family of rugged computers, the RPDA still meets both MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-810E specifications. With its advanced computing capability, its portability and ruggedness, the Scorpion™ RPDA is hands down the ideal choice for a dependable computing, communications and situational awareness solution for commanders at all levels.

Mission Data Loader
The DRS Mission Data Loader is a stand-alone USB device with a user removable 1 Gigabyte Flash Memory card. Sine Flash Memory is “steadystate”, it is able to withstand environmental conditions that most mechanical drives cannot. The MDL is compatible with all operating systems, provided the OS recognizes USB devices. A specially designed door allows the quick removal and replacement of the memory card.
