ATK Awarded $12.5M Contract for Former Peacekeeper Rocket Motor Aging Surveillance Program

ATK - Advanced Weapon Systems and Space Systems

Options Could Boost Five-Year IDIQ Contract Value to $34.8M

Alliant Techsystems (NYSE: ATK) has received a $12.5 million contract from the U.S. Air Force to provide aging surveillance support for the Stage I, II and III rocket motors of the former Peacekeeper (PK) intercontinental ballistic missile system.

Under the terms of the five-year, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract, ATK Launch Systems will conduct testing and provide engineering services for SR118, SR119 and SR120 (formerly PK stages 1, 2 and 3). If all contract options and special studies are exercised, the rocket motor aging surveillance contract value could reach $34.3 million.

The contract supports the Rocket System Launch Program of the Space Development & Test Wing, Kirtland AFB, NM, which reports to the Space and Missile Center, Los Angeles AFB, CA.

ATK will provide engineering services to ensure excess assets are safe for storage and handling, and that cost-effective solutions to aging issues are developed and implemented in a timely manner. ATK will also provide data necessary to verify that the assets are ready for flight.

The Air Force achieved full operational capability for the Peacekeeper ICBM system in December 1988 with the acceptance of the fiftieth PK missile at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo. The Air Force officially deactivated the PK weapons system in September 2005 in compliance with the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START II).

ATK is a $3.4-billion advanced weapon and space systems company employing approximately 15,000 people in 22 states. News and information can be found on the Internet at http://www.atk.com/.
