The unit is composed of a video camera mounted on an all-aluminium
telescopic handle that can extend up to 5.5 m in length. The camera sends a video picture to a body-worn receiver fitted with a TV display. Depending on the use required, several handle lengths are available (from 320 cm to 550 cm).
Both the giraffe unit and the receiver are IP68 rated and use MIL SPEC connectors and cables.
The Macroswiss Giraffe is available both with standard Camera (B&W IR camera with Illuminator) or with a selection of Night/Day IP68 Deluxe units.
Both the Standard and Deluxe units are specifically produced to function reliably in harsh environments (dust, water, mud, etc…)The Giraffe Receiver is fully IP68 rated (immersion up to 3m) and is fitted with MIL SPEC connectors and cabling and has an IP68 AV out cable for recording images directly from the camera.
For portability, the Receiver and all accessories are stowed easily in a purpose made weather-proof nylon bag which is padded in order to protect the unit during ordinary transportation.
The high performance re-chargeable batteries included inside the receiver housing guarantee up to 9 hours of operation (depending on light conditions)and extra operating time can be added by using an external power pack of Lithium-Polymer 2.1Ah batteries which give 4 hours use per pack.
The power packs can be charged with a dedicated charger and are fully IP68 rated for use in harsh environments. They may also be hot-swapped without requiring the system to be shut down.
The "Charge" socket is also used to connect the external battery packs via the IP68 watertight connectors.
