SELEX Sistemi Integrati achieved the Provisional System Acceptance (PSA) of the two first radar systems FADR (Fixed Air Defence Radar) installed in the sites of Bekescsaba (Hungary) and Nepolisy (Czech Republic).
The acceptance ceremony was held in Bekescsaba, and represents one of the due milestones included in the Contract signed in 2002 with the NATO Consultation, Command and Control Agency (NC3A), to provide the two Countries with 5 radar systems.
FADR is the fixed version of RAT31-DL, state of the art 3D radar system for long-range air defence, also available in deployable and mobile configurations. The acceptance was achieved after exhaustive and deep technical and operational trials, which have demonstrated excellent performances of the radar.
In particular, the trials were executed by flight tests exploiting several kinds of military aircrafts, JAS39 Gripen, MIG-29, L39 Albatros, Yakovlev 52, and Antonov-26, each performing proper sophisticated manoeuvres to evaluate the radar capability in extreme conditions. The trials were successfully concluded by a test with a calibrated sphere of small radar cross section, towed by MU-2 aircraft. This kind of test represents an absolute innovation in the field of 3D performance evaluation, and places SELEX Sistemi Integrati at the forefront of performances for 3D radars, such as RAT31DL.
The acceptance ceremony was attended by personnel coming from all the NATO bodies involved in the Contract, besides representatives of the Minister of Defence from Czech Republic and Hungary. The NATO Agency NC3A expressed appreciation towards SELEX Sistemi Integrati for a record timely delivery, according to NATO standards, of a high technology and very complex system.
Radars belonging to the family of RAT31 represent the most sold long-range systems within NATO countries in the last years. The RAT31-DL has been sold in eight countries worldwide, six of which belonging to NATO, for an amount of 21 systems.
