Radar Tower Upgrade and Radome Supply

Alan Dick and Company Limited - Communication Infrastructure Solutions

AlanDick were commissioned by a Major Global OEM to review the existing 17ft tall tower at a North African Military Site, and make recommendations with a view to adding a 32ft diameter AlanDick radome to the structure.

The radome was required to shield the radar from the extreme local conditions. Initially AlanDick visited the site to perform a detailed survey of the existing structure.

AlanDick surveyed the site to establish detailed construction and review structural condition

Following the survey a design review was performed and recommendations made to modify the tower to accommodate the radome.

From the Customer-supplied outline drawings AlanDick were able to perform a structural analysis to assess whether or not the existing tower would be capable of supporting the radome.

The tower was then Modelled in "Solid Works" (radar omitted for clarity)

Having established that the tower itself was structurally suitable, the radome support steelwork was then modelled on the tower. AlanDick then manufactured the additional steelwork and the radome, and continued on to site to perform the installation works.
