MS Instruments PLC (MSI) wins 5 year RAF contract to provide and maintain their range systems for Air-to-Ground (ATOG) Pilot weapon training.

MS Instruments PLC

In 1995, MS Instruments PLC won a £0.5m contract from MoD for the supply of Live-Fire Strafing and Bomb/Rocket Scoring systems for installation on all Air Weapons Ranges in the UK and an overseas training range.

The Company was awarded a support contract which was extended for a further five years, running to 2007. In March 2007, a further 5 year contract for ongoing support as well as a system update programme was awarded to the Company. The contract value is in excess of £0.5m.

MSI's Air-to-Ground Strafe and Bomb Scoring System is an advanced Pilot Weapons Training System, which provides instantaneous feedback to the Control Tower, on the position of shots striking a target, or bombs/rockets falling on the Bomb Court.

The co-ordinates are immediately transmitted via UHF radio link to the control tower, where the data is displayed on the screen and this is communicated back to the pilot seconds after firing is complete.

Intelligent in-house designed Software for the Range Processor allows communication with up to 12 Strafing targets and 8 Bomb Scoring sighting quadrants and also displays a range of information about the Callsign, Aircraft type, Store, Attack profile, Dry Runs, Bootlegs and Fouls that can all be combined with ease into daily and/or monthly statistical reports for further analysis.

The company is in the process of rolling out their system for an Air Force in Asia, where they have recently won an ATOG contract and where the need for this invaluable real environment, live-fire Pilot training system has been identified.
