The goal of physical security is to protect facilities, buildings, and assets contained inside of the facility. The Perimeter Security Veil would greatly increase the warfighters ability to view the exterior of the perimeter and maintain concealment from enemy view. The PSV may be used to protect Command and control facilities, fuel storage areas, aircraft, vehicles, medical facilities, prisoner containment centers, checkpoints and guard towers.
USAMPS and TSWG
Realizing that there existed a need for an easily deployable and recoverable Perimeter Security Veil, the US Army Military Police School (USAMPS) developed the concept for the security veil system. A proposal was submitted to the Technical Support Working Group (TSWG) and accepted as a New Start effort for fiscal year 2005.
TSWG’s requirements for the proposal were, “Develop a perimeter security screen to attach to existing fences, buildings, or natural objects. Similar to some camouflage materials or vehicle window screens, the security screen must block or limit viewing of the interior of a facility from the outside. It is desired to have an ability to see through the screen from the inside with the naked eye, night vision devices, and/or thermal viewers.”
EUA Report
The Perimeter Security Veil has been developed exclusively by Creative Building Products as a commercial off the shelf (COTS) item to meet the requirements as identified by TSWG. Samples of the PSV have been submitted to TSWG and USAMPS for evaluation and testing. An Early Users Appraisal (EUA) report was conducted on the Veil by the USAMPS. The EUA concluded, “The results showed that the PSV is a very useful way of blocking the enemy’s view of the valuable assets inside of a facility, while allowing the warfighter the capability of detecting and assessing targets on the exterior of the perimeter.”
Sniper Veil
The Perimeter Security Veil is being utilized in large quantities in Iraq. The PSV has been nicknamed Sniper Veil as it blocks the enemy sniper’s view into compounds, building, checkpoints and guard towers.
APO Address
The PSV can be shipped to an APO address as it is packaged in a box that is 21 inches X 25 inches X 5 inches and has an approximate weight of 21 pounds. The deployed Veil is approximately 33 feet long by 7 ½ feet tall. It is available in Desert Camo or Woodland Camo.
