C&M and Reflex Photonics Work Together to Create Specialized Optical Cabling Solutions

Reflex Photonics, an advanced developer of extreme high-speed optical connectivity solutions for semiconductor packaging and data transfer applications, will be working with C&M Corporation to develop customized optical cabling solutions for high end robotics, audio visual (A/V), government supercomputing, datacom, medical, industrial and military applications.

Custom Active Optical Cables

C&M will create custom active optical cables (AOC) based on Reflex Photonics' state of the art LightABLETM Optical Engines: compact, pre-aligned encapsulated modules initially providing four independent transmit and receive channels, with each channel initially capable of 5 Gbps of operation for an aggregate Infiniband DDR supporting bandwidth of 20 Gbps over 300 meters of optical fiber.

Active Optical Cables"After an extensive search to find the right technology partner, Reflex Photonics and its LightABLE optical engines proved to be a perfect fit for our specialized cabling solutions, as their modules can withstand the harshest external operating conditions including temperature, humidity and EMI interference," said Joseph Iamartino, vice president of business development at C&M. "Active optical assemblies incorporate the best features of copper and fiber interconnect solutions and have been sought by robotic and industrial automation specialists for years.

Because of their high functionality and feature integration, including a two-wire serial interface, the LightABLE optical engines offer the most practical solution for DDR/SDR InfiniBandTM, 10 Gigabit Ethernet CX4/XAUI extender, 4 x OC-48 SONET, multi-lane PCI-Express, 10 Gigabit Fibre Channel and proprietary backplane interconnections. Future products are expected to support QDR Infiniband.
