SubscribeFN Herstal is pleased to announce that its SCAR prototype has been officially selected from a field of competitors through a full and open competition by the US Special Operations Command (US SOCOM) and has been awarded an IDIQ (indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity) contract that is funded for FY-2005.
The FN SCAR is a family of weapons that FN HERSTAL designed and built from the ground up to satisfy the severe USSOCOM requirements. It consists of different variants of rifles, all available in 5.56 (SCAR-Light) and 7.62 (SCAR-Heavy) calibres as well as a Grenade Launcher Module with Fire Control System
The SCAR was Operator specified, Operator tested and Operator chosen.
At this stage, the project is entirely dedicated to address US SOCOM requirements.
