SELEX Sistemi Integrati, a Finmeccanica company, designs and develops Large Systems for Homeland Protection, systems and radar for air defence, battlefield management, naval warfare, coastal and maritime surveillance, air traffic control and turn- key airport solutions.

Fifty years of experience in system integration have created a customer base in no less than 150 countries. This means that SELEX Sistemi Integrati has complete mastery of the advanced technologies involved - the company's true wealth and expertise - as well as an extensive commercial offer of state-of-the-art solutions and products, backed up by full logistic support.

SELEX Sistemi Integrati has been in Turkey since 1974, when Air traffic control systems were acquired to fit Istanbul and Ankara airports.

The most recent success in the country is the contract the company signed in November 2006 with the Turkish Aviation Authority for the complete update and enhancement of seven Air Traffic control centres located all over the Country.

The contract - confirming SELEX Sistemi Integrati's success in the SMART (Systematic Modernization of ATM Resources in Turkey) tender - includes the supply of a national system based in Ankara, able to manage all Turkish airspace, and six approach traffic control centres that will be installed in Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya, Dalaman, Ercan and Bodrum airports.

The system supplied by SELEX Sistemi Integrati will support "disaster recovery" capability, enabling the transfer of Air Traffic Control from the national centre in Ankara to the centres in Istanbul and Izmir, allowing them to take up the relative traffic and hence operate as back up centres.

SELEX Sistemi Integrati takes part in the 2007 edition of IDEF within the Finmeccanica Stand, displaying IPN-S CMS (consoles MAGICS 2 and NUM), EMPAR radar, RAT 31DL radar, an ATC and a VTS demonstrators, a console for integrated ATC and VTS data.

Naval Systems

SELEX Sistemi Integrati operates across all areas of naval battlespace, delivering turn-key solutions to meet requirements from every operational level and for every kind of surface ship. Its IPN-S/CMS - Combat Management System is already on board the Horizon Class frigates and is to be boarded on the new Cavour Italian aircraft carrier and on the new FREMM Class Frigates.

IPN-S Combat Management System

SELEX Sistemi Integrati boasts a dedicated exhibition area inside the Finmeccanica stand, housing a MAGICS-2 and a NUM console, which are part of the CMSs designed by the Company. On board, the consoles are part of the Command and Control Rooms and represent a basic component of the IPN-S System. MAGICS-2 are multifunctional consoles, suitable for a wide rank of mission profiles (missile guidance, target acquisition and management); NUM are the main consoles within the onboard Operations Room, playing the role of messages and information integration and management. The large screen plays a demo about a typical Joint Forces mission, showing the enormous potential added by the Integration concept to Command and Control architectures, that can be applied to a targeted battlespace.

The IPN-S Combat Management System integrates Combat System sensors, Weapons, EW (ESM/ECM) Systems, Tactical Data Links and Navigation Systems into a Main System, providing the Command Team with the facilities to operate the Combat System and fulfil the ship Operational Tasks and Missions.
Thanks to its scalar architecture, the IPN-S is a solution for any size and class of vessel starting from Patrol Vessels through Aircraft Carriers.

EMPAR

EMPAR (European Multifunction Phased Array Radar) is the state-of-the-art multifunction radar and operates at C-band performing concurrently 3D detection, multiple target tracking and missile guidance. EMPAR is designed to be fitted on board medium and large tonnage vessels, playing the role of principal ship sensor.

It performs real time management of its time/energy budget executing operational functions on the basis of the assigned priorities.

EMPAR can be integrated with both combat and missile systems; in fact it is the primary sensor in the FSAF/SAAM-IT and PAAMS (FR/IT) missile systems.

Air Defence Systems

RAT 31DL Model

SELEX Sistemi Integrati is at the forefront of long range radar technology with the RAT31 family, a proven state-of-the-art, 3D Long Range radar systems family. It is available in fixed (FADR-Fixed Air Defence Radar) or in transportable configuration as well as in mobile (RAT31DL/M-Deployable Air Defence Radar).

The RAT31DL, 20 of which have been sold to date, has been bought by eight countries worldwide, six of which belonging to NATO.

Homeland Security Systems

Integration console

The Integration console provides a Common Operational Picture (COP) of the Maritime Traffic and the Air Traffic over the area of interest, through the fusion of data provided by the Air Traffic Control (ATC) System and the Vessel Traffic Control (VTS) System.

This Integration Console is relevant to the Blue Border Control, typical for Homeland Security scenarios, when in-real-time control and coordination of aircraft and vessels traffic are required, to counter threats related to illegal intrusion within the territorial waters. This console is a demonstrator of the capabilities of an Integrated System in reducing the reaction time and increasing the effectiveness of the reaction.

Vessel Traffic Management System demonstrator

In the naval & maritime sector SELEX Sistemi Integrati has also developed an integrated Vessel Traffic Management System network to cover and manage a wide geographical area, such as its first widest application: the Mediterranean basin.

The System architecture is based on multiple control layers, identified as: Local, Area and Central, interacting at different operational levels. Each level supports the operational coordination and decision, according to its mission. The local stations in this architecture directly collect data from the Sensor Sites and interact with traffic. The VTMS developed by SELEX Sistemi Integrati are available in fixed, transportable and mobile versions.

SELEX Sistemi Integrati has already delivered ten VTS Systems to Italy (the widest network worldwide), to Poland and, most recently, to Yemen.

Air Traffic Management Demonstrator

The ATM demonstrator by SELEX Sistemi Integrati consists of an A-SMGCS (SAIL) and an Automatic Dependant Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) system. SAIL, A-SMGCS Integrated solution by SELEX Sistemi Integrati, is a modular and flexible A-SMGCS suitable to a wide range of airports. The demonstrator shows one Tower/Ground Controller Position, deployed by SELEX Sistemi Integrati in Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa International Airports. Recorded data are gathered trough an ADS-B 1090ES Ground Station (MXC) by SELEX Sistemi Integrati, a high performance ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast) Ground Station for en-route, terminal and airport surveillance applications, compliant with the 1090 MHz Mode-S Extended Squitter standard.
