BT To Roll Out Blackberry Solution for the Ministry of Defence

BT today announced the launch of Research In Motion’s (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) BlackBerry Enterprise Server for the defence and security service sectors at the Defence Systems and Equipment International exhibition.

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server

enables secure wireless access to email as well as phone and organiser access, and is renowned for its high level of security. In addition to having the ability to manage policies and access rights, IT decision makers can also remotely control, shut-down and wipe any BlackBerry smartphone that has been lost or stolen. The solution will empower military personnel, civil servants and their industry partners to securely carry out their day-to-day responsibilities, wherever they are.

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server

is accredited and approved by the Communications and Electronics Security Group (CESG) for the communication of data at the RESTRICTED* level and is the only mobile data solution currently approved for use by the Ministry of Defence (MOD).

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server will be available through Defence Fixed Telecommunications Service (DFTS) delivered by BT on behalf of the MOD.. There will be a choice of two smartphones: the BlackBerry 8700v and BlackBerry 8707v.
