Ultralife Batteries specializes in lithium batteries and charging solutions for a wide range of military applications including: communications, thermal imaging, night vision, surveillance, chemical detection, search & rescue, undersea mines and others.
We have extensive experience with a wide range of chemistries and are able to tailor each battery design to match the specific requirements of your application.
Lithium-Manganese Dioxide Batteries: Safer and Longer Lasting
Ultralife Batteries has a long history of developing and producing a wide range of high-energy batteries at both its UK and US factories. In particular, we specialize in Lithium-Manganese Dioxide (Li-MnO2) batteries, the safest, high-performance battery chemistry available. Produced with both stainless steel and nickel-plated steel hermetically sealed cases, these cells exhibit 10-year shelf life and no voltage delay even after years of storage.
The future of lithium battery technology lies in Li-MnO2, a solid-cathode chemistry. Unlike both Lithium-Sulfur Dioxide (Li-SO2) and Lithium-Thionyl Chloride (Li-SOCl2), which are liquid-cathode chemistries, Li-MnO2 does not suffer from the effects of passivation, which causes liquid-cathode batteries to experience a voltage delay phenomenon causing the cell voltage to be depressed when a load is applied, particularly after extended periods of storage with no use. This condition is exacerbated at low temperatures resulting in the possibility that a liquid cathode battery may not start up when called into use. Li-MnO2 batteries, which are inherently safer than the other types of lithium batteries, do not suffer from this voltage delay phenomenon

Ultralife offers a wide assortment of high-performance non-rechargeable Lithium-Manganese Dioxide (Li-MnO2) and rechargeable Lithium Ion military batteries, which are used to power everything from field radios and night vision goggles to telemetry systems and chemical agent monitors.
Because of a number of incidents resulting in soldier injuries, and the possible venting of toxic sulfur dioxide gas, the Li-SO2 battery chemistry is losing favor for military applications and is starting to be replaced by Li-MnO2 batteries. Additionally, Ultralife's Li-MnO2 batteries offer a significant life cycle cost advantage by providing 50% or more capacity in the same amount of space than Li-SO2 batteries.
Wide Range of Lithium Cells, Batteries and Chargers
As shown in the following lists, Ultralife manufactures many batteries & chargers to suit a wide range of military requirements.
Lithium-Manganese Dioxide Batteries
Ultralife's high-energy lithium-manganese dioxide (Li/MnO2) batteries are utilized by military organizations throughout the world to provide both primary and back-up power for a wide range of communications equipment, imaging devices and weapons systems. These advanced-technology batteries provide long storage life with virtually instant power when needed and surpass strict military performance requirements.
Ultralife HiRate® cylindrical batteries, a breakthrough in lithium battery technology, are spiral-wound and provide high capacity with ultra-high rates of discharge - even in extreme temperatures. These Lithium-Manganese Dioxide batteries have no voltage delay at start-up and are significantly safer than any comparable high rate system. Cells have a 10-year shelf life and are available in various standard sizes.
Widely used in military and industrial applications, the batteries are usually configured in multi-cell packs, allowing for optimum voltages and capacities for specific applications.
