Systecon typically assists customers to achieve a balance between real needs, operational performance and total life cycle cost for a system, in order to be confident that the system will meet its objective.

The total cost includes the costs of operation, maintenance, production and quality losses.

We are engaged in all phases of a system's life from the definition of goals and requirements, through the process of system design and acquisition to operation and continuous improvement. Below we describe some application areas where our services are used:

Consultancy Services:

Production Efficiency
By focusing on the complete production process and life cycle economy, we help identifying improvement potentials in technology, logistics and human support processes. For simulation of the production process we use SIMUL8 from Visual Thinking.

Advanced Logistics Support
The efficiency of supporting physically distributed technical systems is dependent on the allocation of resources, e.g. maintenance personnel and spares. We have developed one of the leading software tools, OPUS10, for optimization of these resources. OPUS10 is used by major authorities and organizations worldwide. Systecon has an extensive experience in the ILS/LSA/LSAR area and of standards like MIL-STD 1388 and DEF STAN 00-60.

Systems Reliability and Safety
Actual production of a system is given not only by its Technical Performance but also by its Availability Performance. Systecon uses RAM-analysis (Reliability, Availability and Maintainability) to illustrate, scrutinize and evaluate different factors influencing the Total Performance. Deviations in system behaviour or operation may have extensive consequences on the customers' economy or environment. Our experience from a wide range of projects e.g. within nuclear and space industries enable us to identify the major risks in terms of criticality, consequence and probability. We use FMECA and FTA as well as other suitable methods.

Operations Experience Feedback
The primary source of information about your system or business is your own experience. Often, however, it seems to be the hardest to get. We provide systems design, analysis knowledge and tools (e.g. MadCat) to help you make better use of your operational experience. Access to real facts will then enable more accurate planning and decision making.

Information Systems Design
Changing the information structure of an organization requires complex specification and development work. We work closely with our customers using project management, process analysis, requirement analysis and specification, database design and the securing of system quality and systems documentation.

Process Improvement
All organizations of today must identify and keep focus on their core processes and, equally important, the support processes. Systecon is a competent partner in the analysis of business, production and support processes, with special experience from IDEF methods.

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

Program Management Support
We provide support for project management teams responsible for developing new or improving existing technical systems, logistics systems and/or information systems. The typical consulting services we provide can be described as:

  • Assisting programme managers or programme administrators responsible for planning, execution and monitoring a project through all it's phases.

  • Coordinating and participating in the process of defining requirement specifications and tenders, performing tender evaluations and contract negotiations and the verification of requirements. In particular with respect to safety, reliability, logistics support and life cycle cost (LCC).

Software Quality Assurance
We provide consulting services in the area of Quality Assurance (QA) with an emphasis on software products developed according to ISO 9001, 9000-3 and TickIT standards. The typical consulting services provided by Systecon can be described as:

  • Development and implementation of a quality system.
  • Quality assurance and control of development programs.
  • Analysis and evaluation of the quality system of a contractor in association with a tender evaluation.
  • External revisions of the development work of a contractor.

Configuration Management
We provide consulting services in the area of configuration management (CM) in association with technical systems or information systems development programs. In this respect Systecon has experience working with PCMS as a support tool for CM. The typical consulting services provided by Systecon can be described as:

  • Defining, implementing and monitoring CM programs associated to a project.
  • Defining, implementing and monitoring document management programs associated to a project.

Complex Systems Modelling and Sofware Development

System reliability and Logistics Support Analysis often require sophisticated models and the use of applied mathematics. Systecon's model group has specialized in developing such models and implementing them in software solutions. One area of specialist capability is spares optimization, where Systecon has developed the well-known tool OPUS10 used worldwide. Several other models have been developed, mainly in the area of operation and support of complex systems. The main purpose of these models has been to study the impact restriction of maintenance resources has on a system's operation. Another specialist area is the development and use of advanced simulation models.
