VIKING leads the way in naval life-saving equipment protection with its new shock and vibration proof Evacuation MiniChute system, and special liferafts in fragmentation proof containers.
The specially designed VIKING Evacuation MiniChute system for navy use has extra protection Naval vessels risk experiencing more extreme situations than most other vessels, and it is critical that the life-saving equipment installed on board can withstand heavy treatment.
Marine evacuation equipment is often the last resort in emergencies, and equipment must function perfectly when needed. Currently VIKING is the only supplier of shock and vibration proof life-saving equipment containers, ensuring the integrity of life-saving equipment even under trying circumstances.
Adapted from the proven VIKING Evacuation MiniChute system
The system inside the containers, the VIKING Evacuation MiniChute, is adapted from the tried and trusted VEMC, which has been installed on naval vessels around the globe for many years. VIKING's Evacuation MiniChute system is an entirely self-contained marine evacuation system that safely and rapidly evacuates to the liferaft directly from on board ship. The high capacity 101 person liferaft is pre-installed in the system, saving valuable time.
The VEMC is lightweight and compact, and fully contained in the stowage unit for installation almost anywhere on board; on open deck or between decks in an open recess. Capacity can be adapted to suit any vessel with additional drop liferafts in various sizes, from 25 to 101 person capacity. The system is simple to operate with a minimum of crew, freeing the remaining crew members to focus on other evacuation duties.
Exceptionally stable - outstandingly safe
The reinforced fire retardant Kevlar® chute compensates for sea swell, even in heavy weather, ensuring that it is always clear for evacuees. The inner layer is designed to be comfortable and ensure a safe, steady descent speed to the liferaft.
The outer layer protects evacuees from environmental hazards, such as severe weather conditions.
VIKING's special navy liferafts include unique features that aid boarding and recovery at sea, and can be protected from hostile fire Defence vessels face a special challenge in life-saving equipment.
Vessels can come under enemy fire and marine evacuation equipment is vulnerable to damage from fragmentation. VIKING's fragmentation approved containers give maximum protection according to required test standards.
Special boarding steps help evacuees out of the water faster and safer
Time is the essence for avoiding hypothermia. Unlike conventional liferafts, VIKING's new liferaft design has a unique boarding step system. Two stairs inflate automatically in the water at the entry point. They are designed to remain firm and stable in the water and allow evacuees to simply step up into the liferaft.
Near Infra Red lights make liferaft recovery at sea faster and easier
VIKING has added NIR, or Near Infra Red, lights to their liferafts for the Swedish Navy. NIR lights cannot be seen with the naked eye. They are viewed with special binoculars, already installed on the majority of search and rescue vessels and helicopters, and can be seen a far greater distances than conventional lights, and can significantly reduce search and rescue time. VIKING supplies life-saving systems and equipment to naval forces across the world.
