ISSAV – Intelligent Sensors in a Secure Ad-hoc Network

DIEHL BGT Defence

The peacekeeping operations in which the German Armed Forces are currently involved on various continents present a major new challenge.

Within the context of such stabilization operations, the protection of high-value targets - especially camps, critical infrastructure and convoys - is becoming increasingly important.

Since asymmetric threats through terrorist attacks on-site or in the immediate vicinity of a high value target may cause maximum damage, ISSAV - a flexible, interoperable surveillance network - is being developed, automatically acquiring and merging information from sensor raw data and generating an operational picture of the local situation.

This local operational picture is processed for specific, individual roles (site commander, guard commander, task-force member) and made available as a Common Relevant Operational Picture (CROP). An essential feature is the automatic generation of alarms when objects penetrate the security zone, thus considerably reducing the reaction time in the sensor-to-effector chain. ISSAV is implemented by Diehl BGT Defence with IBM Deutschland GmbH acting as subcontractor.
