L-3 Communications WESCAM (L-3 WESCAM), a wholly owned subsidiary of L-3 Communications, announced today that it has been selected by Boeing to provide the MX-15 electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) imaging turrets to the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) for the CH-47F (NL) Chinook helicopter fleet.
WESCAM recently received authorization to proceed (ATP) from Boeing for the production preparation agreement (PPA) phase for the Royal Netherlands Air Force acquisition of CH-47F (NL) aircraft. The PPA agreement provides for planning and long-lead activities that will support the production of new Netherlands Ministry of Defense CH-47F (NL) helicopters.
"We are extremely pleased to be on the team selected for the RNLAF CH-47F (NL) program," said John Dehne, president of L-3 WESCAM. "This selection demonstrates the increasingly broad acceptance of the MX-15 for advanced military applications and gives us the opportunity to expand our offering to this very important platform."
The MX-15 sensors include a digital IR camera, a Low Light TV (LLTV) and an Eye Safe Laser Rangefinder (ESLRF). Image fusion of the IR and LLTV eases operator workload by providing a unified, spectrum-rich view that is operator selectable. The MX-GEO suite of geographically registered functions will enhance operator ease of use on long missions and, in combination with the ESLRF, will deliver high-accuracy target location.
