Global CBRN specialist Allen-Vanguard, formerly PW Allen, has published a comprehensive catalogue of its expanded range of Hook & Line (HAL) rigging equipment for the defence industry.
The directory has been designed to be an indispensable reference guide for users. It incorporates details of every HAL® kit and accessory with explanations for use, part numbers and photographs of the individual components. The portfolio of products are all indispensable tools safeguarding field operators in a wide range of scenarios.
The Hook & Line BombTec™ Rigging System, internationally recognised as an integral component of EOD and IEDD capabilities, consists of up to four sets of equipment including the HAL® BombTec Rigging Kit, Vehicle Access Kit, Building Accessory Kit and the Lightweight Tripod. Used together, they are designed to cover the different scenarios the end-user may face.
The HAL® BombTec Rigging Kit is a two-line rigging device for all IEDD situations. Its components help users move, attach, anchor, reach, manipulate and handle the various settings. It can be deployed in a wide range of threat situations involving buildings, roads, water or air vehicles in urban or rural locations.
Many of the HAL® items are particularly useful to gain entry during IEDD tasks. For example, the Vehicle Access Kit contains a range of field-proven special tools for opening vehicles remotely. The Building Accessory Kit comprises a number of pieces of equipment for opening building doors using anchor points, lines and pulleys. Lastly, the Lightweight Tripod is ideal for lifting objects up to 90kg away from the scene. It has self-levelling feet for stability, anchor attachments for versatility, and is portable in its own transport case.
For more substantial tasks, the new Heavy Duty Tripod is designed for lifting heavy, cumbersome objects up to 2,260kg. Each of the tripod's telescopic legs have two sections that can be locked at a range of heights enabling deployment in restricted altitudes or on sloping ground.
The newly developed Special Operations Kit is a lightweight EOD/IEDD rigging device combining maximum capability with exceptional portability. Each kit comprises a custom made backpack for stowage and over 80 standard components that help the end-user complete essential functions when dealing with a threat scenario.
For more awkward lifting requirements, two further kits are available. The Engine Compartment Tool is designed specifically to enhance the rigging capability for searching and clearing suspect vehicles. The Heavy Duty Kit MK3 is a rigging device that assists vehicle towing and moving large items, and is a practical solution when other HAL® kits cannot handle the weights involved.
As Roy Peers-Smith, managing director of Allen-Vanguard, explains: "All of the HAL® kits are simple to operate and can be assembled in seconds, thereby minimising the time that the bomb technician remains at risk from a suspect device. They have been designed to offer the user enhanced remote access and clearance capabilities and should be recognised as a core part of any defence team's equipment.
"The accompanying catalogue gives the user key information regarding all of the HAL® equipment available, and therefore helps determine what should be used in which scenario."
