Barco sets pace for high resolution, high-speed motion visualization with new simulation LCoS projector

Barco Simulation

Barco, a leading global provider of visual display solutions for simulation and training, announces the release of the high-resolution Sim 7 projector series.

The Sim 7 series displays razor sharp, no-smear images for high-speed motion simulation applications, making it ideal for today's most advanced aviation and military training exercises. With state-of-the-art LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) technology, the Sim 7 series offers crisp, ultra-realistic imaging which sets the pace for simulation in today's competitive market. LCoS is Barco's technology of choice for simulation applications.

In a world marked by increasingly complex commercial and military flight operations, advanced training programs are essential. With its superb clarity and dynamic precision, Barco's Sim 7 series makes blurring and delay a problem of the past and sets the standard for visualization of the future.

"The Sim 7 series projection platform has been specially designed for the simulation market and optimized for simulation system integration," said Dave Janke, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Barco's Simulation business. "The Sim 7 series will assume the cornerstone role of the simulation system and enhance the total system performance rather than solely the projector performance."

The Sim 7 series works at 100% brightness capacity when Extended Contrast Ratio (ECR) and True Motion Reproduction (TMR) options are disabled. In comparison, competitive technologies trying to push the dynamic contrast range typically operate at only 25% brightness. Sim 7 projectors can be equipped with a motion-base compatibility option, and boast a rugged design which can withstand the high G-forces from motion vibration in simulation exercises.

The Sim 7 series utilizes Barco's proprietary technologies such as Linked CLO (Constant Light Output), Gray Level Definition, DynaColor, and robust edge matching to produce high-resolution, multi-channel visualization. Fast-switching LCoS works with Barco's 120Hz TMR feature to keep images from smearing.

Barco's Warp software preserves fine detail and prevents frame delay, while sophisticated ECR technology eliminates extraneous light rays to improve overall picture quality - thereby enabling true stimulated night vision goggles (NVG) applications. With the NVG optimization, the Sim 7 Series can create precise NVG stimulation complete with realistic blooming and halo effects.

In addition to cutting-edge imaging, the Sim 7 series can be optimized with Barco's latest automated alignment product, ACURAS. This proprietary package stores brightness and color data, automatically adjusting variations to ensure accuracy and increase efficiency. ACURAS works with Barco's xRACU remote control system and intuitive Polaris software for simple and consistent alignment.

Sim 7 series projectors are currently available in QXGA (2048 x 1536) and HDTV (1920 x 1080) versions with contrast ratios up to 10,000:1. Barco plans to extend the product line with higher resolution solutions in 2007.
