The correct internal fitting also play a role in ensuring that hazardous good are transported safely. ZARGES, in collaboration with other leading providers, offers a comprehensive range. Padded fittings can be supplied both as standard products and as individual, customised solutions, adapted to the weight and intended use of the contents and where applicable also containing the appropriate absorbent material.
Basic Principles
- Strict safety regulations are laid down by law for the packaging and transport of hazardous goods. Hazardous goods may only be transported in packaging that meets these criteria and is approved by the authorities.
- The requirements in relation to packaging are governed by the Hazardous Goods Directive and other standards.
- ZARGES has for many years been producing UN-approved packaging in aluminium. This approval relates to composite packaging (Code UN 4B).
What we at ZARGES offer:
- Consultancy service: Information about legislation and directives. Advice on the classification of hazardous goods. Recommendations for suitable internal and external packaging (incl. padding / cushioning material). Compiling special solutions.
- Testing: Design testing of external, combination and composite packaging (Aluminium 4B/Steel 4A). ZARGES is an authorised inspection authority. Approvals issued via the Federal German Office for Material Research and Testing (BAM).
- Supply: Exterior packaging in standard or special sizes with approval. Complete packaging solutions (composite packaging). Special solutions.
Zarges has its own testing agency
In its capacity as an authorised test and inspection agency, ZARGES is authorised as well as able to carry out tests in relation to hazardous goods packaging and to apply for type approvals.
A type test may incorporate the following individual tests:
Stacking pressure test
Simulation of a compression loading of 3 m stacking height for a minimum of 24 hours.
Drop test
On to all possible impact surfaces, but at least on to the point which is assumed to be weakest. Drop height 0.8 to 1.8 m.
Puncture test
A 32mm rod weighing 6kg, with one end hemispherical in shape, is dropped on to the midpoint of the weakest point of the testpiece. Height of drop 1.0 m. Drop height 1.0 m.
