Hydro Group plc, based at the Bridge of Don in Aberdeen, has completed the first project within Korean defence market to provide fibre optic cable and termination systems for a surveillance aerostat.
Doug Whyte, Hydro Group’s Managing Director is extremely excited by the company’s involvement in a highly innovative opportunity within Korea.
“Historically our key sectors are oil & gas, subsea defence, oceanographic, renewable energies and diving. This project is the result of 3 years research and development between Hydro Group and the Korean Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) and Shin Young Industries. It’s currently undergoing trials which will last approximately 3 months and if successful we hope to build a further 10 systems valued at £400”
K.A.R.I.’s principal researcher Mr Kim added “Providing solutions to our specific needs has been the success of this project. Hydro Group has worked closely with us and Shin Young, designing, developing and testing the cable for the aerostat which has a difficult operational height of 4000 feet. We are looking forward to working with their team on the next stage”
