The Italian company’s long tradition in Malaysia is demonstrated by the presence of two important companies established with the local industries: Comlenia, a joint company between SELEX Sistemi Integrati and Comintel, which provides naval logistics and technical support for systems on board the Laksamana Class corvettes of the Royal Malaysian Navy; AAT - Advanced Air Traffic -, a joint company between SELEX Sistemi Integrati and other Malaysian equity participants, for technical support and maintenance of ATC/ATM radar systems.
The Malaysian market is deemed strategically important for SELEX Sistemi Integrati. In fact, since the Nineties the Company has provided many primary radars, secondary radars and ATC control centres in quite all Malaysian airports.
In the air defence sector the National Air Defence of Malaysia has acquired three RAT 31 DL radar systems RAT 31/DL, the most sold radar system into NATO in the last five years, and command and control systems.
The company is also actively pursuing the design and the implementation of systems and relevant software to provide proper protection to coastal States’ interests in the EEZ - Exclusive Economic Zone. In this framework SELEX Sistemi Integrati has proposed the Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) to the Malaysian Coast Guard (MMEA). The system provides advanced solutions for control and management of safe vessel traffic, monitoring the maritime environment and supporting Search & Rescue (SAR) operations at sea.
At DSA 2008, into Finmeccanica stand, hall 4 n. 4073, SELEX Sistemi Integrati will be presenting its most important products and programs, showing its capabilities in the field of air defence, homeland security and naval systems, air traffic management and airport systems. In particular, the company will exhibit a RAT 31DL model and a Vessel Traffic Management System demonstrator.
Air Defence Systems Capability

SELEX Sistemi Integrati is at the forefront of long range radar technology with RAT31/DL, a proven state-of the art, 3D long range radar system, available in fixed (FADR-Fixed Air Defence Radar), transportable and mobile (Deployable Air Defence Radar – DADR) configurations.
The sensor is effective to a range of over 500 kilometres, is an advanced L-band solid state phased array, 3D surveillance radar, with an advanced architecture incorporating multiple simultaneous phase controlled pencil beams, all proven solutions already in use in many radars of the same family.
RAT 31/DL is able to operate in full frequency agility mode, guaranteeing resistance against Anti-Radiation Missiles (ARM) and Electronic Counter Measures (ECM).
RAT 31DL meets the latest NATO standards, has full NATO interoperability, and has been developed to satisfy future defence requirements.
RAT 31/DL is the most sold radar system into NATO in the last five years, In fact of the eight countries worldwide having acquired a total of 20 radar systems, six of them belong to NATO.
Homeland security - Sea Surveillance System capability (SSS)
Within the Finmeccanica Group SELEX Sistemi Integrati is the Design Authority and Prime Contractor for design, manufacturing and marketing of Large Systems for Homeland Protection, including solutions for Homeland Security (protection of territory, boarders, people, institutions and national and critical infrastructures) and Homeland Defence (superiority of information, interoperability, Net Centric solutions and data fusion).
SELEX Sistemi Integrati has a long experience in designing and delivering coastal, surveillance systems, sea surveillance systems and vessel traffic management systems, counter piracy, smuggling, illegal immigration, illegal fishery, and to ensure safety at sea.
Such systems integrate X-band and S-band radars, AIS, CCTVs, VHF Direction Finders. The systems architecture consist of multiple control layers: local, of area and central, interacting with maritime traffic at different operational levels. The local stations within those architectures collect data directly from the sensor sites and interact with the maritime traffic.
The configuration of centres and sensors is selected according to specific customer’s requirements and are available in fixed, transportable and mobile versions.

The Vessel Traffic Management System developed by the Finmeccanica Company is able to cover and manage a wide geographical area, such as its first application in the Mediterranean basin. In fact, the Italian nation-wide VTS of SELEX Sistemi Integrati operated by the National Coast Guard is the most comprehensive worldwide and is a sample of network-centric integration of maritime, operational, safety and security services.
SELEX Sistemi Integrati has already sold many VTMS systems, in Italy (the widest net), Poland and, recently, in Yemen.
Naval Systems capability
SELEX Sistemi Integrati plays an important role as major supplier and integrator of leading-edge technology based on latest generation systems. The Company is actively working as the lead Combat System integratoron major naval programmes, such as the Horizon Frigates, the FREMM Frigate (Italian-French programme), the new Cavour Aircraft Carrier for the Italian Navy, and Baynunah Programme for the United Arab Emirates Navy which are also equipped with the IPN-S Combat Management System and the NA25-XM Fire Control System driven by the CMS consoles.
Shipborne Combat Management Systems
The Combat Management System by SELEX Sistemi Integrati integrates Sensors, Weapons, EW (ESM/ECM) Systems, Tactical Data Links and Navigation Systems, into a Main System providing the Command Team with the facilities to fulfil the operational task and mission of the ship. The System features are: Surveillance, Sensors Management, Tactical Picture Management, Navigation Support, Threat Evaluation and Weapon Assignment, Weapon System Management, Operations Planning, Multi Tactical Data Link, Onboard Training.
Standard sets of functions are available, to operate from any onboard Multi Functional Console onboard. According to some specific operational requirements and roles , additional functions are available, such as Naval Gunfire support, Aircraft Control, Air Traffic Control (for aircraft carriers), and Mine Hunting Support. The Combat Management IPN-S Combat Management System by SELEX Sistemi Integrati, is based on a scalar architecture, is suitable for any Class of vessel, from Patrol Vessels thru Aircraft Carriers. Any Component is fully redundant, assuring “no break” level resilience and graceful degradation.
FCS – Fire Control Systems
SELEX Sistemi Integrati designs and develops Fire Control Systems, based on Electro-Optical and Radar systems, available both as a stand-alone FCS for small and medium size vessels, as well as a secondary FCS, integrated into Combat Management Systems for major ships.
SELEX Sistemi Integrati Fire Control Systems belong to the last generation of such Surveillance /Fire Control Systems, relying on state-of-the-art processing units and electro-optical sensors.
Air Traffic Management and Airport Systems
