A Department of Defense instruction establishing procedures and responsibilities on Corrosion for all military branches was signed on Feb. 4, 2008 by John J. Young, Jr., Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and logistics (Aa,T & L).

The instruction, Prevention and Mitigation of Corrosion on DoD Military Equipment and Infrastructure, assigns specific responsibilities to the Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps to guarantee they'll manage corrosion programs on all military equipment and infrastructure.

Each service is required to designate a corrosion executive responsible for policy and guidance in corrosion control.
