M93/M93A1 Fox Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Reconnaissance System (NBCRS) The Fox is capable of detecting chemical contamination in its immediate environment through point detection and at a distance of up to three (3) miles with the M21 standoff detector on the M93A1 vehicle.

Challenges:
Currently there are a total of 119 M93/M93A1 Fox NBCRS serviceable vehicles in the U.S. inventory. There are a total of 121 Fox M93/M93A1 Fox NBCRS being considered for life extension, along with an additional 21 German Army Fuchs (Fox) vehicles that are pending sale to the US Army. The Recap. of the 142 vehicles to a M93A2 configuration with improved sensors and armor package is currently planned to be funded in the FY06 Supplemental.
Other Pertinent Information:
- John Petty, GDLS Fox Program Director and Team, were awarded Distinguished Service Award by local U.S. Army Command (MG George Friel, Commander) in May 1995.
- M93A1 Fox NBCRS vehicle was the first modified foreign (German) system type classified standard by U.S. Army (in June 1995).
- The Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) recognized the Fox Team, consisting of GDLS and their associate subcontractors, for exemplary completion of the first 62 vehicles of Fox upgrade within cost, schedule and performance parameters and supporting all fielded systems with a 94% operational readiness rate (April 2001).
- 2002 Fox Integrated Product Team received honorable mention for environmental excellence and readiness from the Department of the Army.
- 2003 and 2004 TACOM, Rock Island Contracting Assessment rated the Fox Maintenance Program “very good” in contract program management and “exceptional” rating in the business relationship category.
- The M93A1 Fox vehicle was the first vehicle system to be fielded in the U.S. Army inventory with Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM).
- Partnering between SBCCOM/Anniston Army Depot/GDLS/Rheinmetall Landsysteme/GDLS.
- Anniston Army Depot has a cost reimbursable subcontract from GDLS under firm fixed price upgrade contract and Reset program.
- U.S. Army/Germany Army International Logistics Agreement for parts, procurement and common change control.
- All Fox contracts have been executed within cost/schedule to date.
- Operational Readiness Rate of the M93/M93A1 fleet has an annual average better than 90%. This includes deployments in Gulf War “Desert Storm,” Bosnia, Kuwait, Kosavo and Kuwait/Iraq theaters of operation (OEF & OIF).
