L-3 Communications leads the way in the ruggedized computer industry with its new Portable User Data Terminal (PUDT).
The PUDT is a specially ruggedized PDA offering a half-sized VGA display (640 x 240 pixels) and the ability to enable multiple applications using various customer-determined PCMCIA devices. Selected for use by the U.K. Bowman program, the PUDT easily supports a wide array of battlefield applications where size, weight, and extreme environment protection are vital factors.
The PUDT's rugged design features, significantly larger display, processing power and ease of operation all combine to make it an ideal choice for use as a handheld digital platform in extreme tactical conditions.
The PUDT has primarily been created for employment by ground and naval artillery forward observers, air control party precision targeting teams, long range reconnaissance and surveillance patrols, combat communications teams, and as a PIM or situational awareness tool for the dismounted soldier or small unit leader.
Because of its small form factor and durability, the PUDT can also serve in a variety of law enforcement and public safety roles, or be used to fulfill remote medical, transportation and supply & maintenance computing requirements.
