Features

It is a real-time stand-alone, battery operated thermocycler with built in analysis and detection software. This nine pound instrument is capable of performing thermocycling, analysis and identification without an external power source or attached to a computer. The unit comes with an external low voltage transformer connector, battery charger and software for creating new run protocols, post-run analysis and real-time data downloads on a computer.
Handheld, Light Weight and Portable

The RAZOR's small, portable size makes it the ideal instrument for those who need to bring detection right to the incident. Its reinforced aluminum casing allows it to be taken into the most extreme environments. For transport, the instrument is packed inside a solid case which is watertight and airtight for the ultimate in protection. Constructed of copolymer polypropylene molded plastic, ATA rated and exceeding spec. 3oo, these cases can withstand the toughest conditions.
Battery Operated

The low voltage battery that slides onto the bottom of the RAZOR instrument is able to complete five full runs per charge. The battery can be swapped out to perform additional runs or charged using the low voltage charger supplied. The instrument can be plugged into a power source for non-field field testing or analysis.
Freeze-dried Sample Pouch

Samples tested on the RAZOR instrument use our revolutionary new PathFinder™ pouch technology. Each pouch is target specific and contains all of the probes, primers, buffers, etc. necessary for real-time fluorescent detection. Reaction set-up does not need centrifugation and requires no pipetting.
RAZOR Instrument Software

The Razor's instrument software performs system self-test diagnostics upon start-up and stores the run-time protocols needed for the available reagent pouches. It prompts the user on the LCD display and guides them through reaction setup and testing. After a test is finished the instrument displays positive and negative results in an easy-to-read format. The results and real-time data are saved in the instrument's memory and can be downloaded to the RAZOR desktop software for further analysis.
Intuitive Desktop Software

The RAZOR instrument is designed to run without any external computer source. Additional data analysis and instrument setup can be performed with the included in-depth desktop software. The desktop software is used to program protocols, upload protocols to the instrument and manage run files. Razor runs can be downloaded to the desktop software for more in-depth analysis of data.
Sample Handling

One of the unique features of the RAZOR instrument is the use of the PathFinder™ sample pouches. The pouches are made of thin clear flexible plastic attached to a semi-flexible loading-body fitment. The clear plastic film provides a large surface-to-volume ratio, allowing for rapid heat exchange and temperature cycling as well as efficient fluorescence monitoring. The fitment keeps the freeze-dried reagents under vacuum until use. Patent Pending.
No Centrifugation or Pipetting Required

One key attribute in the new Pathfinder pouch, is ease-of-use. Samples are prepared and inserted into the pouches with cannula tipped syringes. The syringe is inserted into the fitment of the pouch and the sample liquid is drawn by vacuum pressure into wells containing the freeze-dried reagent. This design ensures that the correct volume of sample liquid is used to resuspend the dried reagents. The user then depresses plungers on the fitment to disperse the reaction mixtures to their proper sample slot.
Durable Plastic Pouch Prevents Cross-Contamination

The PathFinder pouch is inserted into the instrument through the sample pouch slot. The design of the PathFinder pouch prevents cross-contamination between samples and controls and allows the complete setup to be disposed of as a unit after thermocycling.
Freeze-dried Sample Pouch
Each PathFinder pouch comes vacuumed sealed within a tough mylar bag which allows it to be stored at room temperature for up to six months. They contain all of the ingredients necessary to perform real-time fluorescence detection - the user simply inserts unknown sample and reagent grade water to reconstitute the freeze-dried master mix.
