The Stryker is an important product for the U.S. Army and General Dynamics Land Systems.
In November 2000, the former GM Defense and General Dynamics Land Systems were awarded a $4 billion contract to equip the U.S. Army’s six Stryker Brigade Combat Teams (SBCT) with 2,131 Stryker wheeled armored vehicles through yearly delivery orders into 2007.
These new eight-wheeled armored vehicles are the interim step in the U.S. Army’s effort to transform itself into a more agile and deployable force. The Stryker is assembled at company plants in London, Ontario, and the Anniston Army Depot.
To date, the Army has completed fielding Strykers to its 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (1st SBCT) and 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (2nd SBCT.) The Army is currently fielding Strykers to the 172nd Infantry Brigade (3rd SBCT), Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Ultimately, the Army plans to field three SBCTs in the state of Washington, one each in Alaska, Hawaii and Pennsylvania. Overseas basing of Stryker Brigades in Korea and Europe are under review by the Department of Defense.
