GDLS continues to develop and test hybrid electric drive technologies for application in a 4x4 Reconnaissance, Surveillance, and Targeting Vehicle (RST-V) and the 8x8 Advanced Hybrid Electric Drive (AHED) vehicle.

The core to these programs is in-hub permanent magnet motor drives. The in-hub motor design and associated power electronics have demonstrated their maturity, having completed more than 5,000 miles without any motor failures.
These vehicles have demonstrated dimensional compatibility with the V-22 and C-130 aircraft; robust, high-performance hybrid electric drive; and improved, integrated survivability characteristics – the three principal requirements for the military. During testing, they have consistently demonstrated superior all-terrain mobility, agility and acceleration while also demonstrating improved fuel economy and range.
