Another major General Dynamics Land Systems customer is the U.S. Marine Corps. Land Systems is partnering with the USMC on its highest priority modernization program, the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (EFV).
Land Systems’ Amphibious Systems operation in Woodbridge, Virginia, is designing the new ground combat system for the Marine Corps, which will be built by the Land Systems-operated Joint Systems Manufacturing Center (JSMC in Lima, Ohio).

EFV represents the signature mission of the U.S. Marine Corps – expeditionary warfare. The EFV will replace the Marine Corps’ aging current system and will provide the capability to maneuver in the water while combat loaded at 20 to 25 knots. The EFV will maneuver cross-country with the agility and mobility of an M1 Abrams tank. The EFV will have an Mk46 30mm weapons station and modular armor to ensure vehicle and troop survivability.
A demonstration/validation contract was awarded in 1996 for the design, virtual prototyping, systems integration, fabrication, and testing of three prototype vehicles between 1996 and 2001. GD is completing the design and development of the EFV, building and testing nine new prototypes, refurbishing the three earlier development prototypes, supporting the Marine Corps’ initial operational test and evaluation and preparing for the production phase of the program.
