Air crews in Iraq and Afghanistan go to battle with a proven winner - ATK'S M789 Lightweight 30mm ammunition (LW30mm). Used primarily in Apache AH64 helicopters, the LW30mm ammunition is battle-tested and capable of supporting numerous missions and tactics. The dual-purpose warhead provides the firepower necessary to penetrate armor while maintaining its high-explosive capability for use against soft targets.

Wayne Farley, President, ATK Ammunition and Powder, said, "The M789 round provides the flexibility air crews need to accomplish numerous missions.
Whether U.S. forces encounter armored vehicles in the open or are involved in urban combat, Apache crews rely on the M789 to deliver the precision and firepower necessary to defeat the enemy."

The LW30mm M789 is fired from the M230 Chain Gun, produced by ATK Gun Systems in Mesa, Arizona. The M789 HEDP cartridge and M230 Chain Gun are in use on other platforms, including developmental ground vehicles and current airframes.

"Our goal is to supply U.S. and allied forces with the very best equipment possible," added Farley. "It is gratifying to the company to see that the U.S. is fighting and winning the war on terrorism with the assistance of ATK ammunition."
