Successful testing by the US Army and Air Force of airdrop technology crucial to closing deal
RESTON, VA/South Windsor, CT August 31
Planning Systems Incorporated (PSI), a leading technology development company, and Capewell Components Company LLC (Capewell), a leading manufacturer of life support and aerial delivery products, have agreed to final terms on a sales agreement worth up to $ 5 million for Capewell to market PSI’s Precision Airdrop System (PADS) to overseas non-US users. Developed for the Army and Air Force to improve the accuracy of parachute and guided payloads delivered from high altitudes, PADS is a result of lessons learned during the recent conflicts in Bosnia and Afghanistan.
“Because airborne delivery operations for humanitarian relief and tactical resupply are fundamental tactics in the 21st century military arsenal, we’re pleased to announce that PADS has been successfully tested by the Army and US Air Force and is now being delivered to the Air Force Air Mobility Command,” said Alan Friedman, president & CEO of PSI. “Our agreement with Capewell is another example of how PSI’s technologies are bringing mission critical capabilities to operators. ”
“As the world’s leading manufacturer of life support and aerial delivery equipment, Capewell is very excited about the opportunity to market this important technology developed by PSI and the PADS team,” said Bob Francis, vice president and general manager of Capewell. “Precision aerial delivery is a capability that soldiers and airmen desperately want, and PADS, which is a portable laptop based system, offers that capability.”
The laptop computer is part of a portable PADS kit that includes expendable hand-launched dropsondes, UHF radio receiver, and all interfaces for operation aboard C-17 and C-130 aircraft.
