SELEX Sistemi Integrati: Inaugurated New ATC Radar Systems For Findel Airport (Luxembourg)

SELEX Sistemi Integrati

SELEX Sistemi Integrati has equipped with its radar systems the new control tower of Findel Airport in Luxembourg that has been recently inaugurated at the presence of the Minister of Transport Lucien Lux, and the director of the Finndel airport, Gilbert Meyer.

SELEX Sistemi Integrati's offer was selected in 2005 at the end of an international tender.

The new 54 metre high radar tower hosts a primary ATCR 33S radar and a secondary SIR-S radar. The primary radar has a solid state 19 kw power transmitter and is equipped with the last generation planar antenna ALE 3x5, using a dipole matrix and a combination of several beams in reception. These characteristics allow the antenna to optimize its performance with stretching results in vertical radar coverage and clutter management.

The "Mode-S Enhanced" radar system, including the secondary radar SIR-S, can operate a selective interrogation of planes and can automatically perform a ground reception of some important flight parameters transmitted by the plane (Downlink Aircraft Parameters). The result is quality and integrity enhancement of radar data on plane position, identification and altitude.

These improvements permit clear benefits in terms of security, capability and efficiency of air traffic control, in a very crowed area such as central Europe.

The new systems installed in Luxembourg, confirm Selex Sistemi Integrati' presence in the continent and validate the good relationship the company has had since the nineties with this country.
