SELEX Sistemi Integrati, a Finmeccanica company, is the first company in the world to have acquired a specific level 3 CMMI® (Capability Maturity Model® Integration) certification in the domain of Large Systems for Homeland Defence and Homeland Security.

CMMI® is an international standard which certifies the maturity and the quality of industrial organisations. The certification acquired, proves the capabilities and competencies obtained by SELEX Sistemi Integrati to efficiently manage extremely complex integrated systems development.

Capability Maturity Model® Integration

The certification was obtained after a deep verification activity, carried on through the analysis of more than 30.000 documents and about 450 interviews made within the company. The CMMI level 3 is, in fact, the result of a long-term path of changes followed by the company during the years and of the innovation introduced in the process improvement affecting the management model and quality of the company products. The level 3 confirms the capabilities of SELEX Sistemi Integrati in the integration of complex large systems.

The company has been qualified also thanks to the validity of the management model used, the structured management of the improvement process, the integrated project teams, the integrated platform to support the teams' work, the milestones control system.

The increased attention to the quality assurance of suppliers, of hardware and software, the organised introduction of a company department dedicated to the software architectures management, besides the creation of the SELEX Academy, which includes the large systems and radar educational school also had a fundamental role in the level 3 endorsement.

The acquisition of the CMMI® level 3 will guarantee SELEX Sistemi Integrati's customers a certified reliability in terms of products and associated risks management and will allow the Finmeccanica company to have a privilege position among the main competitors operating within the large systems domain.

The CMMI®, belonging to the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Carnegie Mellon University based in Pittsburgh (USA) and sponsored by the US Department of Defence, is an integrated model which analyses the company process development and improvement and was created to evaluate the continuous evolution of companies and of processes maturity within the companies to allow them to cope with the strategic challenges in a better and better organised and structured way.
