Low Cost Peace Of Mind For Torque Tool Users

How often do workshops spend money to have torque tools calibrated, only to find that they were OK in the first place? Even worse, the wrench is out of calibration and may have been used in this condition for weeks! With the new Norbar, ‘TruCheck’ torque tester, these days are over. Everyone can now afford to have a tester permanently in place and keep their tools in top condition at all times.

Customer demand from the automotive tyre and wheel changing sector was the impetus behind the development, but at £450 for the basic model and £500 for the ‘Plus’ version, everyone that uses a torque wrench regularly will find the tester useful and affordable.

The new Norbar tester has a ½” drive and covers the most common range of 35 to 350 N.m. A version calibrated from 25 to 250 lbf.ft is also available for those who prefer Imperial units.

The basic TruCheck is designed to be simple to use and has no changeable settings. It can be safely left on the shop floor without any worries. Designed for ‘click’ type torque wrenches only, all the operator has to do is set a torque on his wrench, apply it to the tester and read the clear LCD display to make sure it matches the wrench setting.

The ‘TruCheck Plus’ version allows the user to select the units of measurement and also whether the torque wrench is ‘click’ or ‘dial’ type. A limit function can also be used to set a tolerance band and signal if the unit under test is within the limits. It has an RS232 output so that data can be downloaded to a PC for storage or for the production of calibration certificates.

Both types of tester are robustly constructed on a steel mounting plate well able to handle the maximum torque to be applied. The ± 1% of reading accuracy meets the requirement of the ISO 6789:2003 torque wrench standard. The outer shell is polypropylene to withstand workshop conditions and the LED displays are visible in all light conditions. There is also a neat plastic carrying and storage case.

On hearing of the new product, Martin Ellis the Chief Mechanic at Triple Eight Race Engineering, consecutive four times winners of the British Touring Car Championship, said “This is terrific news, please put me down for one. I think every workshop should have a torque tester but there is always the issue of cost, even in Formula One. At this price, I don’t think anyone could refuse the new Norbar unit.”
