General Dynamics C4 Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), has been awarded a $5.5 million task order under the Air Force's Network-Centric Solutions (NETCENTS) contract for the U.S. Navy's Automated Digital Network System (ADNS) Increment III. General Dynamics will develop, document and demonstrate two engineering-design model systems and two shore-demonstration model systems to serve as fully meshed communication networks linking seaborne and terrestrial assets and personnel.

"This award establishes General Dynamics at the heart of another major deployed network for U.S. military customers," said Chris Marzilli, president of General Dynamics C4 Systems. "We look forward to providing naval warfighters with network solutions at the tactical edge, ship-to-shore."

ADNS is the Navy's program of record for wide area networking. The program consists of multiple components that are fielded on surface ships, submarines and at on-shore communications facilities. ADNS Increment III is a requirement for a fully meshed network with increased throughput capability, in support of real-time, mission-critical data transmission with a high degree of reliability, capable of supporting the latest internet protocols.

FORCEnet is key to the Navy's transformational efforts, and is the operational construct and architectural framework for naval warfare in the information age. The vision is a system that integrates warriors, sensors, networks, command and control, platforms and weapons into a networked, distributed combat force, scalable across the spectrum of conflict from seabed to space and sea to land.

The program was competitively bid, and work is expected to be completed by Sept. 2007. Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, San Diego, Calif. is the contracting authority.

General Dynamics C4 Systems is a subcontractor to General Dynamics Information Technology (Fairfax, Va.), a NETCENTS prime contractor.
