L-3 Link Simulation & Training (L-3 Link) announced today that the first F/A-18F Tactical Operational Flight Trainer (TOFT) to be delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) has achieved initial training capability status. As part of this initial delivery, L-3 Link also has installed a fully integrated mission briefing and debriefing system.
F/A-18F Tactical Operational Flight Trainer (TOFT)
“L-3 Link is very pleased to provide the Royal Australian Air Force with the first F/A-18F simulator to be delivered to any international military,” said Bob Birmingham, president of L-3 Link. “These simulators are designed to meet the RAAF’s unique training requirements and benefit from our global investment in F/A-18 simulator hardware and software commonality.”
L-3 Link is under contract from Boeing Training Systems and Services to support the delivery of two F/A-18F Tactical Operational Flight Trainer (TOFT) to RAAF Base Amberley. The second F/A-18F Tactical Operational Flight Trainer (TOFT), which will include a new Australian visual system database, will be delivered with an additional mission briefing and debriefing system in late 2010. When the second TOFT is delivered, a parallel upgrade will be made to the currently fielded simulator to expand its mission training capabilities.
Each F/A-18F Tactical Operational Flight Trainer (TOFT) consists of independent cockpits and visual display systems for both the pilot and weapons sensor officer. These F/A-18F simulators will enable aircrews to undergo a full spectrum of advanced tactical training.
The trainers are integrated with L-3 Link’s 360-degree SimuSphere® visual display, SimuView ® image generator and Boeing’s advanced avionics simulations and simulated Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System, which provide both pilots and weapons sensor officers with a completely immersive training environment.
The mission briefing and debriefing systems capture all mission event data as F/A-18F aircrews undertake air-to-air and air-to-ground simulated exercises. Following mission execution, RAAF aircrews are able to evaluate their tactical performance and capture lessons learned to maximize training.
