BNS Container AS is helping in the fight against piracy by supplying two 10’ containers to the Norwegian Armed Forces. The containers have been installed on the frigate KNM Fridjof Nansen. The Norwegian frigate is a part of the EU operation 'Atlanta' and is patrolling the waters of the Gulf of Aden, off the coast of Somalia. Operation 'Atlanta' is a combined EU effort to protect commercial ships and vital food aid shipments from the dramatic increase of pirates operating in the area. The ultimate goal is to help these ships reach their destinations safely and to prevent pirates from continuing to hold ships to ransom.
Detention Containers
The containers have been specifically fitted out for the safe holding of captives. The detention containers are lined with fireproof and water-resistant panels to protect the occupants in the event of an emergency. They are also equipped with an air conditioning system to allow air to circulate whilst keeping the container secure. All systems specified for these containers are designed to be low maintenance to enable long term usage with the minimum of problems. The containers are furnished according to the needs for the temporary holding of the captives until they can be transferred to their destination.
The use of these containers will potentially help to reduce the number of pirates operating in the Gulf of Aden area. Allowing high priority food aid to reach those who really need it.
