Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) have become the most prominent threat in the field today. Currently, one of the biggest challenges in armored vehicle development is designing a vehicle to protect the occupants from various explosive threats without compromising off-road performance with high vehicle weight.

IAG Predator and Stealth APC's

In order to address this issue, the R&D team at International Armored Group has developed the Predator and Stealth APC's, designed to optimize vehicle survivability against explosives while improving off-road driving performance by maintaining a low vehicle weight and optimal handling.

The IAG Predator and Stealth armored personnel carrier is built on a Ford chassis while the Stealth is based on a Toyota chassis, the two APC's incorporate many of the same features in the armoring design. The vehicle protection level can be custom built based on specific requirements to counter different levels of ballistic threats. Every door aperture, including the roof mounted turret (optional), feature full ballistic steel overlap and spall shields around 360 degrees of the entire opening to prevent ballistic penetration, as well as securing the armored doors in place in the event of a large side blast. In addition to the cabin, the entire engine compartment is also fully protected in the front, with air vent louvers constructed of ballistic steel improving air ventilation and protecting the engine bay.

The ideal method of protecting the vehicle occupants from blasts is to mitigate the immense force of the explosion away from the vehicle. IAG has incorporated the V-shaped hull design for both armored personnel carriers. In addition, the transparent armoring has been strategically positioned to deflect explosives detonated on the sides of the vehicle.

IAG has also developed various heavy duty vehicle components in order to support the additional weight of the armoring and provide superior off-road performance of the APC's. Both the front and rear axle are redesigned so that the original axle shaft no longer carries the weight of the vehicle, enabling cost effective maintenance and repair as each part can be replaced individually if it is damaged. The original suspension and brake system have also been replaced with heavy duty components designed to optimize vehicle dynamics and reliability for operation in rough terrain. Tires with high off-road performance and run-flats are also installed. By installing heavy duty, high performance components, both the Predator and Stealth Armoured Personell Carriers are designed to operate within a high temperature range and in rough and unforgiving environments.

Security features such as multiple entry/exit points, gun ports, and auxiliary air condition/heating system are incorporated in the vehicle design for the Predator and Stealth Armoured Personell Carrier. Optional equipment such as gun mounts, turrets and RPG protection cage can also be equipped.

The IAG Predator and Stealth armored personnel carriers are compatible with Ford and Toyota OEM parts (respectively), allowing for cost effective, fast moving spare part kits that are readily available and ease of servicing in various regions around the world. Additionally, the Stealth is available in both left and right hand drive configuration, suitable for operations in various different countries.

Both the Predator and Stealth armoured personel carriers are currently still in the prototype development phase. Please contact us for more information.
